rule set post Mongoose

Mongoose
are there any sort of formal, or informal plans by anyone far more into the game trhan I at this point to create and post new race fleets by using other game models, ei stargrunt I believe etc ?

New races, fleets and units are popping up all the time; not all of them get developed into a full blown set, but some do.

Some ones to look at are in Player Resources (see the stickied link above), which has Darkness Rising, the rules for an alternate history (where Sinclair died at the Line, changing history before and after), Juayie, expanded rules for the Drakh war, and my rules for the Minbari Protectorate fleet (see my sig, in fact).

I know for a fact that there's a Dilgar War expansion being written, an updated Earth-Centauri War expansion has been written (watch S&P over the next few months), and a bunch of us are currently creating an Orieni Imperium rules-set (the Orieni were the main rivals of the Centauri for 'recent history' dominant race status)

I know there's also a Markab Fleet List out there, which is actually being used at a tournament later in the year, and a Harbinger (thirdspace aliens) fleet under construction.

Have a look through past topics and you'll come across them.

Apart from a few ships created by our resident ship builder I think we have all stayed away from using third party models thus far. We have created a consderable number conversions of existing models (esp in mine :) ).

It may be once minature production stops we can / will put other ships in but it is a grey area as I believe MGP are not allowed to do this due to licence..............

:)

The lines I was thinking along was if ships were created for "Alien Race X" it might work to have a suggested list of models that would fit the bill.

For example was looking at ships on Ground Zero page. It could simply be that it is 'suggested" models for Alien Race X could be (and you pick a set of minis that sort of fit the general look) and suddenly the game has expansion possibilities after Mongoose and it works better because many gamers are not bodgers to make conversions

There's nothing to stop you; however the Babylon 5-verse is somewhat well-mapped - aside from pretty minor races you get the impression that most of the fleets out there have been described, which is why expansions often focus on particular wars or periods of history, or variants, for existing fleets.

That said there's no reason that one could not create a minor race and use Kra'Vak or UNSC ship models, for example, both of which look quite in keeping with B5. Equally, the Sa'Vasku wouldn't look out of place in a leftover/returning First One fashion*, whilst the phalon....well, the less said about the phalon the better. And some people thought the Liati-class looked dodgy.

The trick is finding a niche in the universe with space for them to be worth bothering; any un-named League member at this point is only really going to be a single-system power.

* concept idea: Nakaleen fleet? It's never made clear just how intelligent they are. Given how a Nakaleen feeder attacks, it's possible it gets smarter the more it feeds - the one on B5 was speaking quite understandably in English.

Of course you have the question of how they'd get off Nakaleen in numbers with the Centauri blockade. Possibly the Drakh (ever alert to the chance to spread fear and chaos) might have arranged it by cancelling the blockade (again)?

Heres my advice for creating a New Race and ship stats for them.

Ask for volunteers and playtest them privately.
I've seen many many forum members post their ideas on ships on this forum and they never get anywere due to the vast amount of different opinions.
Do it privately, playtest them good and release them to the forum.
If they don't like them?
Well they can go jump out the nearst airlock.

this may well be blasphamous, but the Saturn fleet from Wizkids rocketmen actually have a sort of 'hurr' look, if hurr have multiple ships ?

I must say I am not up to the canon of the universe\

I do note on http://www.isnnews.net/hyperspace/races/index.html there are several unknown races which seem to leave a door open for development

as for the kra'vak, they have some centauri-like features, so do the centauri have a minor race alliance to build on ?

the UNSC are neat as are the ESU but no idea what race they fit in style. Are they in relative scale ?

Too bad nothing that fit the Hyach or Cascor (The cascor ships are very kewl)

Are there any other alternate space minis out there ?

Along same lines

are Cascor part of the Non Alingned alliance?

I know that FA ships are smaller, however what would a FA Cascor Nosca Battlecruiser compare to in terms of size. Compared to what ship in Centauri and Brakiri which I know best?

How about the FA Cascor Destroyer or Patrol carrier ships?

Yes I know FA are small

But the battleship would be the largest FA ship, so would that make it a mid-sized ship in this world?

If so they could be used as something smaller than battleship, but still playable.

It appears the patrol carrier and destroyer are still larger that fighter flights too. Just unsure from pic how they come size wise

IIRC, the FA Omega is at best comprable to the Full Scale Tethys. So some of the very largest FA ships might be useable as small escorts.

the cacor joined the LONAW ater the Dilgar war, having worked with them militarily during it, however they pretty much have witdrawn and carried on with their own lives. They are still officially a member but are listed as "absent" for meetings etc as they no longer send representatives.

I have written a cascor fleet for the dilgar war supplement. tryign to stay at least partly faithfull to the existing fluff.
