For what my two pence/cents are worth, I've got about 10 or so RA sourcebooks on .pdf and I've never seen a Ronin Arts product that didn't kick serious ass.

I'm glad Phil took the plunge into MRQ, since it's only going to be a good thing, I reckon.

Hi... Any chance we get a sneak preview?

cheers

If you click the link in the first post there's a sample available.

And it's now in PDF at www.roninarts.com (and coming to other sites over the next few days).

Thanks for the preview. Very nice layout, interesting ideas (I liked the bonus of the Explorer, that was well thought out).
However, there is one thing that bothers me.... aren't you transforming RQ (a classless system) into a D&D-like game? That's my concern. The appeal of RQ to me has always been that one couldn't pigeon-hole characters.

Cheers

Not exactly. It's simply one special feature for each profession, in order to make profession selection have a little more impact during gameplay. If it was a multitude of features, each of which could be purchased like Legendary Abilities but only by someone that selected that profession, I could see where it could be considered more class-like in nature.

No offense meant, but... why do we need this?

IMHO, what RuneQuest character creation needs isn't more rules, but a little more flexibility. Fr'ex, I'm probably going to adopt a simple house rule that allows players to distribute skill points as they wish, more or less (along the lines of CoC and Stormbringer).

I don't see myself spending money on a supplement with pages after pages full of professions if a player can so very easily create them himself on the spot, as the need arises.

Am I missing something?

No offense taken. No one needs this. It's an expansion on a current system, a new selection of options that some people may find useful. As with any new rules supplement or expansion, not all players will find this suits the needs of their specific campaign.

Phil -- I hate to take this thread so far off topic, but how do you like Lulu? I just put a product of mine up there and ordered it so I could check the quality, but I'd like to get the opinion of someone who has used them before.

Feel free to PM or e-mail (tim at seraphim-guard dot com) me if you don't want to reply in-thread.

Thanks!
Tim.

The books I've ordered from Lulu have been fantastic; almost identical to an offset perfect-bound book.* As long as the publisher uploads hi-res files then everything works out perfectly.**

* I've never had any luck with bleeds, though.

* Except when a technical error on their end inserts pages from one book into another book's cover. This is rare, and can be fixed, but it does happen.

And I was very impressed with the speed with which both the publisher and lulu acted to rectify this, given it was late on Saturday when it was reported...

So far Lulu hasn't let me down. I think more game publishers should use them.

Far as I see it, more RQ stuff is good. As long as things dont get into the "flow of shite" level that D20 got, in the beginning, I'll be happy.

If this comes as a PDF, I'll definately get it, just to support this kind of thing

I think if you check around you'll find that I tend to release small, modular items that can be easily dropped into a campaign. And I like to think I usually do good work. :)

Thank you. It's available as a PDF at www.roninarts.com and www.rpgnow.com as of yesterday. It should be at e23 and DTRPG sometime today.

Picked it up on line earlier today..it looks to be good...offers lots of options for those of us who are not into Glorantha...appreciate this is heresy!

Thank you.

Yeah, I figure one of the biggest issues facing the RQ is the fact that many initial fans will be Glorantha fans. As new settings are published in print this problem should correct itself but for now anything that isn't based on Glorantha concepts and history will likely face an uphill battle.
