Thanks for the info Hobby box seeemed to have the best deal on Both of the new books. I normal buy from my LGS but it has closed down :(

Unfortunately, LGS closing is a major side effect of the internet only sales providers... :(
No overheads ya see! They can sell cheap and make more money whilst simultaneously killing the hobby. That's why several companies are taking the decision to only provide to bricks & mortar stores which can help the hobby grow and thrive.

If that's to do with internet stores not providing anywhere to play, then by the same reasoning my LGS shouldn't be supplied any goods either, as they certainly don't have any space for us to use. Of course, that approach would then mean that I wouldn't have anywhere to buy the models, and that certainly would kill the hobby as far as I'm concerned.
At the end of the day my LGS provides just as "poor" a service as the internet only stores I've tried, so ultimately the LGS is wasting more of my money for no gain.

The difference being that when you go to your LGS they stock other stuff, they don't just have 1 item in the store. They promote, support, sell, introduce you to new lines, sytems, etc and are generally a focal point for the entire hobby and hobbyists.
You don't get any of that from an online only provider, you can't walk in and see something shiny and think "ooh! what's that, that looks cool!" or talk with other players (outwith your own "circle" that is) for advice, hints, tips, games, etc.
Once again, this is why more and more (including 1 very large) Manufacturers are heading toward providing to bricks & mortar only, as this will ultimately benefit all and support the hobby. It's not essential that an LGS has games tables, not all have the space necessary, but it is commonly recognised by pretty much every manufacturer that a store is absolutely 100% necessary to grow a particular line in any given area to its best effect.
Hell, if I wanted an easy life, far higher profit/income and cheap toys for myself I'd close the doors tomorrow, but I (and, to be fair, every other LGS owner I know, and I know many personally) do the job for the love of the hobby and the desire to see it grown, survive and thrive.

The internet stores I go to promote, support, sell, and introduce you to multiple lines and systems, so no difference there. That point is therefore null and void.
At my LGS I've not spoken to anyone (outside of my own circle) nor seen a tendancy for others to do so, so no difference there. That point is therefore null and void (at least in the case of my LGS).

Overall then, and moves to supply to only brick and mortar will have the following effects:
- Take more money out of my pockets, for no good reason.
- Less money for the retailer I'm buying from.
- More money for the landlords and taxman (those are the two main increases in expense for a retail location, correct?)

When i used to live in reading i met most of my circle of friends through the LGS the used to run magic nights and host cam games and offered a discount to Reading Uni RPG members got throught 4 stores under diffrent owners in 8 years though must be a tough job running one. My personal pet hate is all the books being shrink wraped as i like to take a look before i buy that the whole point of going to a store in teh first place.

Hobby Box is nice, great chaps as well, had the pleasure to chat with them at Crisis.

I used to use Dancing Dryad before, but it seems theres not much activity lately...

And my LGS... no thanks, at a rate of 1 dollar is 1 euro (so an 8 dollar blister costs 8 euros there) and the (no offense to the americans here) current pathetic rate of the dollar vs the euro... it`s cheaper to order from the UK incl postage then to go to a store a measily 2 km from me...

I l ive in a major UK city and there is no LGS other than GW. Hmmmmm, well ok I go there for my paint sprays and flying bases, but they priced themselves out of the hobby for me some time ago. There are no independants here, no LGS for around 30 miles. I don't drive so that's a train journey.

Far too much hassel to be stuck in a shop that may not stock what I am looking for or has sold out by the time I get there. So most of my miniatures now come from on line, wether on line only or from stores like Hobby Box and ID Gaming who have shops but sell on line. Now for me, as I am reduced to an on line purchase anyway, the most important factor is the service. Do I get what I ask for, is it sent on time, does it arrive on time, am I ripped off over postal charges, what's the discount on the RRP or for buying in bulk?

If you have a store I don't really care, it's not near me so I won't be dropping in any time soon. But as long as the service is good I'll buy from those who meet my expectations as a customer time after time after time. I have to say that any bad experiences and I tend to shoop elsewhere from then on.

Maybe the net is hurting the bricks and mortar stores, or, as in my case and those i game with, maybe it introduced us to new gaming systems and new product lines. Capitlism is based on market forces, the hobby will adapt and grow or it won't survive. Take a look at the industry now to how it was 20 years ago. The quality of minitures has improved accross the board in every major range and game system. The quality of rules and supporting supplements has become more professional and glossy. Now a lot of that can be said to be down to others following the GW model, but it is also down to customers supporting quality with their wallets rather than taking whatever they were given and being thankful for it, it's a niche market and there have been some god-awful things sold out there purely because there was nothing better on offer. Those days are long gone, but every other industry has had to cope with the internet I don't see why our hobby should be any different.

I had an order take a while from them...I had to promt them. I did get a free blister so it worked out ok in the end. I would advise to email them again, if you still have no joy see about get the funds recalled.

I have been sending periodic emails about the status all summer :-/

Wonder what's up? I can't exactly recall the funds if I can't get in contact nor do I really wish it. I would prefer to receive the order rather!

I know they had very good service until around march. Then they started to have problems though understandable ones and I did get one order late may from them. Last one though blank zero :-/

If you paid with a cheque you can get your bank to recall the Cheque, if it was a debit/credit card payment, again the provider of said card can recall this. It may not be what you want, but if you are getting no reply and no models the £100 would be better off in your hands to spend with an online store who will provide the goods, or at least communications.

I think they said they were having email problems when I questioned the time it was taking... but that was quite some time ago.

Neither actually.

That's pretty much last I heard of them but quite a while ago.

Paypal has a safety option, but I`m not sure on the `time limit` as i never had to use it so far (and glad for that), in case you paid by that manner, you might want to search through their help menu to get the process underway

Neither paypal. Since my payment methods were somewhat limited we had to arrange for not-so-common method for payment(the fact they were willing to do that is why I chose that store in a first place! It was pretty much only shop in England I COULD buy miniatures from...).

Anyway I think I'll send them yet another mail. Maybe I'll get lucky this time.

If you find a post from Matt Thompson on the forums, the owner of Dancing Dryad, there is a link to his personal email and blog in his sig as well as the buisness email address, try that instead.
