Following the game convention, each level of a discipline adds 1 to a test made in its area. If you don't have a discipline you can still make a test you just don't receive any additional bonuses to it.
So Hunting gives +1 to tests, magnakai +2, Grand Master +3.
To make it easier for GMs and players to be consistent tests are divided into two groups and five types:
Groups
Wilderness - out in the wilds.
Urban - in places of habitation.
Types
Interaction tests - talking, socialising, threatening. Anything to do with interacting with sentient peoples, or animals if you possess that ability.
Athletic tests - running, climbing, wrestling, rowing. All tests that are physical in nature. This uses CS.
Knowledge tests - learning, teaching, recalling. Tests that involve the use of learned information. A character possesses knowledge of each discipline they have.
Hiding Tests – all tests involving hiding yourself or items, finding hidden people or items, avoiding ambushes, disguising yourself/uncovering the disguises of others.
Logic Tests – deductive reasoning, tracking, rhetoric, gaming, swindling and other tests of thought.
Then something like Camouflage has the following:
eg
Camouflage
This Discipline enables a Kai Lord to blend in with his surroundings. In the countryside, he is able to hide undetected among trees and rocks and pass close to an enemy without being seen. In a town or city, it enables him to look and sound like a native of the area and it can help him to find shelter
or a safe hiding place.
This discipline is used when required to make Wilderness or Urban Hiding tests, Interaction tests and Logic tests (when looking for shelter).
So rather than burden the characters with more stats, you simply define the tests and then their disciplines affect those.
