Raiders questions

Okay so I ended up playing a Raider fleet in the campaign we're playing now. Couldn't resist. But I want to confirm some info after our first couple games:

1) Allied ships. They only get one modification, got that. They roll on their own refit and duties table, saw that in the FAQ. I take this to mean they use their own fleet rules since they don't get the rules of the fleet they're 'aiding'. Is this correct?

1a) If so, can my Vree raider ships 'extract'?

2) Modifications: if I roll the 'assistance rendered' duty and get a new ship, do I get to modify it?

1. As a general rule, allied ships can use any rule that applies to their ships but not that applies to their fleets. So Drazi Agression and Sky Hook Catapult apply, but Quick & Decisive doesn't.

1a. Interesting question. The bonus VP that it generates is of benefit to the fleet. So I would think not.

2. If your allied Ikorta rolls on other duties and the ISA send a Blue Star to aid you, complete with ISA crew, will they let you weld fighter rails to the outside? Again I don't think so.

I'll be interested to hear how your raider fleet does in the campaign.

We'll see how it does, played 2 games thus far. In the 3rd turn I attacked the Centauri, ended up attacking the supply convoy and suceeded by a stunningly lucky vital systems hit that turned a maximus into a fireball.

He retaliated against my observation outpost and we rolled a 5 point battle carrier clash. That was a staggering number of delta V2s and double Vs. Took out a couple of Centurions and crippled a Primus. Managed to get out of the fight without any of my own ships being crippled or destroyed. Though I now have a staggering amount of crits to repair.

The Centauri player is the newest of us to mini gaming and Call to Arms so I don't doubt I had it easier than normal tho.

My observations thus far: the little missile launcher you can add is amazing, and the 20% dmg upgrade on the Nova Dreadnought is awesome.

Any tips for a pak'ma'ra fleet going against these dastardly Raiders? I can already foresee those pumped up Dreadnoughts being a pain in my hump.

Don't use Porfatis, because even his poor dogfighters will beat yours.

Plasma Torpedoes. It is slow and doesn't have a lot of range. Hit it with as many as you can to overwhelm its interceptors.

Use you plasma webs to neutralise his fighters.

Damn plasma webs are quite annoying.

Also, do you lot think a drazi stormfalcon would make a good converted battlewagon? Cause the flying silo I refuse to pay money for :P

I have to admit I'd forgotten the anti-fighter.

However two or three Delta-Vs or V2s should beat a Porfatis. He will probably outnumber you quite considerably.

Then don't pay money for it. :D It has to be the easiest ship in B5:ACTA to scratch-build. Two empty paint pots, a rolled paper cone for the nose, and some more bits of paper or card for whatever detail you want to add. It doesn't have to look pretty, partly because a Raider Battlewagon can't look pretty and partly because Raider ships are supposed to look as though they've been scratch-built.

My point was more its so damn ugly to be something I wouldn't want to field. I mean really, who designs a ship (a civilian one no less) that looks like a 1940s grain silo.

The stormfalcon just looked like something around the right size that raiders could get their hands on and modify easily. Without looking horrific.

Edit: And only if they handn't removed the Gaim as a choice for Raider allies I would really outnnumber him.

1. Agreed. The ship uses its own ship rules; the fleet uses the fleet's rules.
1a. Extraction is a ship ability, the VP is a fleet ability. I'd say the Vree ship can extract but the fleet doesn't get the VP's.

2. I'd think that, since foreign ships roll on their own tables, the Blue Star can't get fighter rails. It will roll on the ISA Refits and Other Duties tables - when it's not helping its new friend, it gets officially approved refits from ISA shipyards and gets other duties from ISA command. (Comedy alternative: out of gratitude, the Blue Star is transferred free and clear to the ship which rescued it, i.e. the Ikorta. It now belongs to the Brakiri! The Blue Star will roll for Refits and Other Duties using Brakiri tables. :))

Funbeast made a great selection of scratch built ships IIRC

Yep - These were all great looking raider scratchbuilds and also get very nicely away from all raiders having the same EA origin look.

seen here , about 2/3 the way down the page

Personally, I'd be quite happy to play it that way too.
