Robert Jordan passed away yesterday, finally succumbing to his rare illness after many years of dealing with it. Whether or not you are a fan of his writing style or existing works, he was a skilled author and well-loved by his fans.

Robert, if you can hear me, one writer to another...your works will go on, and that is all we can ever hope for.

Cheers to you.

Humbled,
Bryan

Though I never read his fantasy saga (wheel of time) I considered his Conan contribution as the best pastiche works.
He could create excellent plots and he was one of the few who could keep "his" Conan world in a low fantasy setting.

As far as I am concerned his Conan the triumphant is the best pastiche novel I ever read: it has dark sorcery, demons, complex political intrigues, countries at war and forbidden cults behond the throne. Everything that Howard included in many every Conan stories.

He also wrote Conan the destroyer (though I didn't know which of his novel or of the movie came out first) which is also a great Sword and Sorcery novel (and hasn't much to do with the movie).

Jordan wrote excellent Conan novels IMO. Thoroughly enjoyable, even if you didn't consider them "Conan."

Did he ever finish his WOT series, or will his fans be left hanging?

David Gemmell died last year. . . that was another TRAGIC loss to fantasy fiction. I own every one of his books and love them all. :(

RJ did leave all the plot details behind and had started dictating the final book in the wheel of time series. So I reackon book 12 will see the light of day.

Jesus, David died too? what a shame, I love his death walker stories.

I'm gutted that mr jordan has died , especially as it will likely mean that the Wheel of Time will now never be finished. hopefully he left enough notes that whoever maintains his estate may see the series come to a proper end...hopefully

Current word floating round t'internet is that he has stated that he made plans for the unfortunate event of his death. The story lines are documented in detail and he had started full dictation from his notes. I assume most of this is gleaned from his online blog at Dragonmount and book signings. Hence the last book should be expected, although how long it takes to find the writer to do it is anyone's guess.

I've never read any of his books, but I have many friends who have. Its a great loss when a prolific writer passes. He'll be missed.
