Questions and thoughts after first game.

Just played my first game of acta:sf and I must say its really cool. And yes its not Federation Commander. Never played Star Fleet Battles so can't compare it to it.

Got a few questions and thoughts from my first game:

1.if i have 2 Attack Die in my phasers and i use 1 to fire at a ship can save to other for defensive fire?
2. Defensive fire against drones does my phaser-1 get accurate+2 and if the drone was over half its range dose it get a -1 to hit because of long range?
3.Whats the order for defensive fire? phasers then drones then tractor?
4.I apply all effects from critical hits right way or at end of turn?
5.How can a disruptor/photon torpedo hit and still do no damage?
6.Why is the Manta Ray-class New Fast Cruiser (NCF) more than the Wolverine-class Fast Cruiser (CF) when the wolverine-class is the better ship?
7. Will there be any Lyrans ships? and if so when?
8. Can I get some more ships for the Orions Pirates, please.

1. No, you must pick offensive _or_ defensive fire.
2. You get the Accurate but, as the drone is not actually a model, range does not apply (we assume you fire when it is close).
3. Always defending player's choice.
4. Right away.
5. If you mean mechanically, you roll a 1 on the attack table. If you mean background-wise, it impacts bulkheads, armour or waste-space.
6. Extra Drone and (more importantly) Phasers-1 on turrets tip the balance.
7 and 8. Being worked on right now!

Same way I suppose that US shermans could hit but not damage German tiger tanks :)

Also they might simply hit location where the damage isn't interfering with ships operation. Damage is too insignificant to track in this scale. More appropriate detail for RPG's. Scratched paint work or damaged cargo bay isn't going to play importance in fleet scale action :)

5. If you mean mechanically, you roll a 1 on the attack table. If you mean background-wise, it impacts bulkheads, armour or waste-space.

However.. Ensign Bob.. who was taking a #2 at the time.. is severely cranky at the disrupter beam tearing his Sunday Comics!

(I swear.. I saw the scene from Jurassic Park when the lawyer was hiding in the bathroom and got eaten. Just substitute disrupter fire.. and Im laughin fit to bust.)

To quote one B5 battle report I read in Signs & Portents:
"We've lost power to the number 3 jaccuzi, and the cappucino machine is off-line!."

A 'bulkhead hit" can simply mean the structure was hit in an area that absorbed the damage to insignificance. That same area is going to still need repairs later at a starbase. The other concept is a shot that hits the shape of a hull just right to glance off taking the worst of the energy away from the ship. Sloped armor on modern tanks and armored vehicles does this.

#2. The way I understand this is with Phasers firings Defensively they engage the targets at the sweet spot where they are no longer at Long Range but are not in their effective Kill Zone

As to clarify my #4 question is all firing from both sides considered to at the same time? For example: my opponent hits me and gets a critical hit on weapon system level 1,so my attack rolls are at -1 to hit, so if that ship has not fried yet all of the attacks are now -1 to hit when its turn to fire? If a ship is destroyed before it acts it never gets to fire back?

Each ships firing takes afect in order so if you inflict damage and or criticals on a ship that has not yet fired it will suffer from any negative effects. Yes, if you destroy a ship before its fired - it is dead and does not get to return fire.

Update, Ninja'd by Da Boss

Yes.

If you suffer a critical to a ship that has not yet fired it takes the penalty when it fires, if a ship that has not yet fired is destroyed it is gone.

Each ship attacks, the result of that attack is allocated then you move to the next attack.
