PSI Judges and PSI Stat

MGT Page 152 states that a character gets a minus 1 on PSI strength for every term served, essentially minus 1 for 4 years after 18?

does this mean that a PSI judge when generating there strength gets:

a) a straight 2d6 roll

b) a 2d6 roll + 1 for every four years they are under 18 (+3 in term 1, +2 in term 2 and +1 at the begining of term 3)

c) a 2d6 -1 for each term served from the age of 5?

my own view is that b) is the better answer for my games but, I was wondering if there was another view?

It was my view that the -1 to Psi only applied to careers that were not psi careers - so if he's trained as a Psi judge the -1 per term does not apply. That's the way I'm going to play it anyway!

It's also worth noting that the Psion MGT supplement suggests that Psi strength be doubled for comic style universes such as Dredd and Strontium Dog. Again, I'd go with this as it seems more in line with the powers displayed in the comics :D

The stat maxes at 15, but the Psi Strength in terms of pool of points available could be up to double this, if you run with doubling the available power pool for psionic powers.

So a Psi Judge could never attain more than a +3 characteristic DM, but could have up to 30 Psi Points to fuel powers.

No.

Treat the stat and Psi points separately.

The stat is 9 (+1) but available Psi Points for spending on psionic powers is treated as 18. The stat doesn't max out at 15 with a residual 3 Psi Points just residing somewhere.

It is without a doubt, that the Judge Dredd setting should have the Psi points adjusted per the recommendation of the Psion book (and other fine sources).

Still, it's possible to run an effective Psi Judge with just the core rules levels, and in fact I tend to recomend that until you get used to the Psionics system as a whole. You don't want to turn lose to much power to quickly.

Just think of how mean, a teleporting Psi Judge can be in mega City One. :D

We created a Psi character last night and I have to admit I'm not familiar with the Psi rules, but did I do this right? When basic training or an event said that the Judge acquired a new Psi power I just gave it to them no learning roll, but when they used seasoned Judge Points I made them roll to learn at a -1dm per power they already had... I ask because the player lost points due to failing and it didn't seem quite fair.

Cheers

There is also a learning DM on Page 184 of JDRPG and on Page 152 of MGT Core Rulebook. The way I run it is the character always gets "a power" but they roll to see if they get the one they want as per the example on Page 152.

If you have Psion, I would assume that The Academy is a Psionic Institute of Excellent quality, which gives a +3DM to learning new Powers and after the Academy the Psi Judge has a Mentor, in their sector house providing a +1DM.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah saw the learning table, but never considered the +3 and +1 dm, and will now use that in the future.

No problem, but remember, they should always get a "power" from either their experience as seasoned judges or their time at the academy.

Yeah I'm going to give him a power but he won't know it until it manifests in game...at a crucial moment! :D

As a side note, my players sprung the choice of game on me at the last moment, so it was a bit rushed, but everyone had a great time creating characters, I've got to just finish reading the book now.

Thanks for the help
Mike.

yeah you want to save the "Here is the New Power!!!!!" for the best possible impact during the game. Very cinematic that way.....well worth the look on their face to. :D
