Progress on 2e

All I have to say is that Mongoose shouldn't bring it out until it's done. I want a complete product that's done right and doesn't need errata 1 second later when someone points out that an ubership has become even more uber.

So it's better to bring it out late and finished rather than early and broken. We'll appreciate it more.

seconded.

Ion Cannons = More TL AD

SWEET! It's this kind of stuff that attracts me to the Secundus. Also, beams are over used... and I hate to kill a good thing by overusing it. I not only avoid beardy ships, but I also avoid beams entirely.

Also, if you are taking out rear weapons for the Centauri... will the Altarian change? Part of what attracts me to it is the diversity in it's lay out. Please don't change it.

Hi guys,

Okay, a lot of you are ocncerned with typos and the like - fair enough. We have all sorts of news systems in place to remove the problems of the past. However. . .

I would like you chaps to nominate one of yourselves. Someone diligent, attentive, with good eyes (and not one of our playtesters!). Once decided, that person will receive a copy of the final PDF before it goes to print, to check over and hunt for errors.

This person will be getting a rare insight into exactly what it is like from the other side of the forum :)

While youre giving out changes, how about a big, red, shiny "I WIN!" button as a patrol choice in the Narn fleet?

Personally, what I want to see is the ships in the new edition being accurate to the tv show in form, function, and design(as well as strengths and weaknesses). I would also like to see under-utilized ships getting a boost(without nerfing the current over-utilized ships too much, none at all if possible) to make them more useful/used. Like the Dag'Kar...

Ocncerned? News systems?

I'd say it'd be better to get 2 people. One person who knows the game intimately, someone who'll spot errors like 3" range on Fighter Dispersal Tubes as a mistake, and someone TOTALLY unfamiliar with the system, but who is very good at spelling, grammar and is a diligent reader.

The first can be found here on the forums no problems, there are plenty of possible candidates. The second would be a lot harder to find, but perhaps one of the other forumites who doesn't play ACTA. That way it all stays nicely within the larger community, and hopefully all problems and errors could be found.

And as for all the promises and improvements, it's good to hear that Mongoose have such noble intentions for v2, but after the whole rigmarole of Armageddon, I'm gonna hold off on making any comments until I've got the finished work in my hands.
Just to say, MAtt and everybody else working on this project (including the playtesters) Good luck. Look forward to seein the fruits of your labour. (and let's try and avoid another "Armageddon for the Dilgar" thread in future  )

I'm hoping this is deliberate ...

I'll volunteer to read.

I have a couple English degrees and lots of time. My game knowledge is solid, but not expert (see playtesters). The more readers the better, btw.

would think someone who knows the game would actually spot the mistakes a bit easier, as they dont think its all strange :)
as for more people reading it means more spotted, hopefully us playtesters do get to count for reading it too.

i realise that. i would say picka couple that are familiar with the system definately though.
although thinking now perhaps someone who doesnt know ACTA could be useful. the mind if kind of preprogrammed to see somethings how you expect, autocorrects for you so you dont even realise its wrong unless you concentrating real hard.

We playtesters did get a copy of Armageddon to look over and we (along with Mongoose staff and proofreaders) didn't find everything.

Hopefully with double the number of playtesters, plus an extra set of eyes, we will find all of the crucial stuff.

This is what I wanted to hear.

When Armageddon came out, I went a little cold on ACTA (a game for which I have hardly any time for, anyway - and now that my still-incomplete ISA fleet is back in Ireland, even less so! Yes, I know about the counters, but I'm a miniatures player!) - it seemed that things were getting a little out of hand, and I wasn't sure that it was right to try and squeeze in too many 'uber' ships for the existing races, when there are other options to consider (such as Early Years Centauri and Fringe Worlds ships - plus the Orieni and their allies in both that and later eras).

But maybe things will be more interesting once v2 is out.

One question - any chance on the Orieni Empire and its Rogolon allies (as discussed here) being on the cards for a future ACTA release (for both the Centauri War as detailed in Wars of the Centauri Republic, and the proposed war in the Minbari Protectorates from The Great Crusade?)

I'd like to volunteer to read over the thing. I have not the certification others might have, but I'd love to throw my hat into the ring as a Work-In-Progress English major with minor newspaper article and editing experience, as well as a pretty good understanding of ACTA.
Also, my name might be popping up sometime this year in S & P.....

I'll volunteer to proof read... not cause I will be particulary good at it, but cause I want to see everything before other people do  .

You know you're all thinking it too...

I am not an english major (Naval Arch) but I do have a precise attention to detail and I like to write (and have always gotten good grades in English) so grammer and propper wording are important to me. I would also just feel special being a part of something like this.

Perhaps splitting it up among several people will A) make the work easier (i.e. make the work seem less like a burden if you are only correcting 4 - 6 pages rather than 20 - 30) B) help us concentrate more on the errors and not how much we still have left to read C) make sure that the entire book is not prematurely released by unscrupulous members.

Well, I hope I can help in any capacity I can.

I was just wondering, are there any playtesters for 2e in the U.S.? If not I'd like to be one. If there are I'd like to be one anyway. :)
