Who here has never heard the term 'Musket'? Do the "ornery guys only know the term rifle" brigade here realy think the average gamer has never heard of "The Three Musketeers"?
Correct terminology is no barrier to mass appeal. Just look at the huge popularity of the Sharpe stories. One of the reasons people enjoy reding RPG supplements is the pleasure of learning and trying out something new. That's a pleasure that IMHo is seriously degraded if you subsequently discover that what you learned was inaccurate.
Being deliberately condescending to your audience is no way to build customer loyalty.
