Platoon Command loss ... what effect

Can't find anything to say it has any effect - in our game the whole command group was vapourised by an artillery strike and we were debating what effect it should have.

Most popular seemed to be:
When the Platoon lost 50% or more they were effectively 'out of command' and unable to act except by reaction.

What do other people do as it must have some effect on the platoons performance surely?

You have lost a valuable unit, other then that ne additional punishment.

Whoahh! You can certainly do that as a house rule, it is your game after all...
But if you are using a rule like that you are in fact rewriting the game! I would be very reluctant to do that.

Secound thought, you can create a similar effect with the old "Shatter" rule (it was included in one of my earlier drafts for WaW):

7.3 Victory and Defeat
The game will continue until one side gains victory by shattering his opponent’s army. This means hammering them and causing enough casualties that any survivors will simply give up and either flee or surrender.
Once an army has been reduced to a quarter of the number of models it started with (rounding down), it is immediately Shattered, and has lost the battle.
Example: A German Kampfgruppe consists of 1 Command unit (5 models), 2 Grenadier squads (20 models) and 1 Panther (1 model). The army consists of 26 models / 4 = 6.5. Rounded down to 6 models. So whenever the German army is reduced to 6 models it immediately shattered and has lost the game.

The scenarios in the World at War book feature their own victory conditions which may have nothing to do with shattering their enemies. The shattering rule is used for simple engagements where both armies are trying to wipe each other out. It is a very simple victory condition and should be used for your first few games before your progress to the other scenarios.
