pbp traveller game

Neither my design, nor the MGT one actually includes an air/raft...
I could add one, but it would be further eating into the cargo space, and I'd rather just design a small off road vehicle using my vehicle book (yes, I mean a mule :P) and have it sat in a corner. It would take much less space (maybe 1-1.5 tons)
It wouldn't be for cargo hauling, but it would be good for any exploring we wanted to do.
Sorry for taking this over dez :P I'll put it back in your hands now...

hehe :D
I think it's up too dez now. I'll design a small off road vehicle tomorrow.

Oh, I was actually thinking about games... I know one thing. I really don't want to be doing anything like saving the universe. I want to wander about, trading, and occasionally doing an odd-job. Like a normal free trader in other words.

Traders personnel carrier
A small, fast, armoured four wheel drive vehicle. It is often used by traders, as it takes up little space, is very capable in any environment, and is well armoured against any threat. It's comparatively cheap as well, meaning many have found their way into the cargo bays of various ships.

So yeah, I did it anyway. Damn that thing is quick, and it can carry a four man crew, four passengers, and a little cargo, in safety.

This is a modified far trader. It keeps most of the far traders bits, in a similar hull, with bigger engines and a bigger cargo bay.

........................................................................

I like this one alot. :)

Maybe up the computer to a model/2bis Hardened. It's cheep and you don't want to lose computer control.

Add 2 hardpoints and put a laser / sandcaster turret in one, for basic defense?

Turn the upper 20 dton cargo bay into a Launch / Lifeboat bay?

Get a multi-role 20 dton Launch. With 3-G or higher M-drive. The main ship only has a 1-G drive. Haveing a fast small ship could be usefull. Can even put a sandcaster and missile rack in it. Need to keep the cost down and cargo space up, so don't spend to much on upgrades.

The only problem is that launches are expensive. I didn't really want to breach 100 megacredits, hence the lack of many, many things. It's the same reason behind the lack of weaponry. I would like weapons, but a turret can be several million credits on it's own. I'd rather save the 20 ton upper bay for speculative cargo as well...

There is a version of the above trader APC which has basic life support for 24 hours. It costs and additional 12,500 credits, and the cargo space is removed.
The standard version also has a roof hatch and a pintle, though there is no weapon on the mounting.

I think you are right. Small craft are an expensive add on. Plus it leads to the crew geting split. That works ok in table top games. But is iffy for PbP ones.

I think going with a large cargo bay is the best idea. The more you add to a ship, the more specialized it becomes. There is nothing wrong with a good old style tramp freighter.

My character has been given the green light.

David Seaton : Age 38
Retired Merchant 3rd Officer : Pension 4,000cr

STR 6

My background will change a little to match the seting. But for now I am thinking. A 20 year man with the Merchant service. Time to take some risks and try to hit the jackpot.

Skills cover takeing care of crew and passengers. Keeping the ships life support systems in top notch shape. Doing the Vacc Suit training drills, ect.

David considers himself to be a Sportsman. The Shotgun skill and Knife fighting. Is not only for self defense, but allso for competive events and hunting.

Oh, excellent. We can get a full set of 6 high passengers with that (if there are that many available)...
I'll post some details of mine now (what I want you too know :P)

Oh, Dez, can I spend several thousand credits getting a fancy wardrobe with pretty dresses and business suits and such...
I would like it for various things....

good good. all of you must agree to one ship.

and dont worry I ain't into saving the universe...do cheesey for a game that tries its best to be real. :)

connections are quite tricky. I have also made a subsector, its pretty small but can be explored if you wanted.

I had an idea for a connection built on on what you guys have talked about. if you like it, i can build more on it.

You all met at a very good party, like a business partnership thats gone smoothly. Sophia is the granddaughter of a very wealthy investor, therefore can go to parties in a lot of circles as well as having a lot of cash. while there she mets Cirocco. one of Cirocco's friend's in the imperial navy has invited her. she begins to play the violin of which sophia likes, and they both get chatting. They both have a few things in common and Sophia tells Cirocco about her ideas of trading. Cirocco now looking for an oppotunity outside of the navy, accsepts.

Few days after the party, they beging planning on how to do this, Sophia's Grandfather tells her of an old friend of his a retired trader David Seaton. They decide to travel to his last known location, a trading outpost in the system of Furi IV in Gaths XII.

They meet him and through Sophia's persauding skills, he joins. They are all ready to go and see what waits for them in the third Imperium.

(not being big headed, but i rekon that connection is cool)

That is pretty cool :)
The only thing is I was going to ask whether my family could be minor nobility. Like Grandaddy is a Baron or something. That makes her Dad a knight, and her brothers are probably in the Navy.

Oh ok. I was thinking the investor part because its close to trading other than trading plus since this is a new system you grandaddy was going to invest his money there and make a go of it.

fair enough, i got no problem with you being a minor noble family. I don't know if thats everyone i need to chase up one more dude

Dez-1

I was going to ask you about that as I use them as a positive dice mod depending on what crowd your in. great minds think alike :)

Dez-1

P.S we might have another player so it could be five all togehter. and we need to think of a ship name.

That would be fine. Consider the living cost per month on the equipment page and then make a decision. remember, It will only work in the right crowd. I have had too many players spending money on clothes and not using it to thier advantage and using it as a flaw.

Well, it's 2,500 creds a month for my social standing... so 5,000 for now, and some splashy spending?

When I'm just about ship, i'm just gonna wear jump suits and stuff. Parties, business meetings, those are different.

Yeah that would be good. Also, walking into undesirable places, you shouldnt been seen as rich.

5,000 is ok. This is your individual wardrobe and no one else. Everyone has got to buy thier own.

I still havent got a reply about the sub forum.
