pbp traveller game

Don't forget that there are still dangers in space. I would recommend you have decent armour just in case but its your ship, not mine.

Dez-1

Maybe... I guess some armour... Maybe one set of crystaliron? (30 tons, 4 points... damn, thats 10,000,000 credits)...

My ship (600t) had an astrogation bubble, medical bay, armory, lab, mining equipment, two 10t fighters as well as a 50t cutter. And drives were J3 M3 IIRC. Something around 6-8 passengers issolated from the crew area.

Weapons: 2x3 missiles; 1x3 sandcasters; 3x3 beam lasers.

The Imperium can be very dangerous.

This is a fair point.
I don't think we need the fighters... it's either 18 or 9 million credits that can be destroyed very, very quickly...
I like that weapons fitting. I have a thing for missiles
Passenger isolation is an absolute must
I don't think a trader needs anything more than thrust-1, though I would be willing to go up too jump-3.
Armoury yes, do we need a lab?
Medical bay (ask far-trader, he came up with some stuff)
Take off two of the beam lasers, add mining lasers instead. That gives us 4 beam lasers and two mining lasers. it'll do as mining equipment, if we really must have it.
What's an astrogation bubble :P
I'd rather have two 20 ton shuttles than the 50 ton cutter.

That sounds good to me. Send me spec for it after making a desicion. Work out the costs (including crew if it is going to be needed).

Right, if this is it, we can be ready to start soon.

My ways of being the GM are very creative. I have created a subsector map. I have also left other things to imagination apart from the rules. I do hope I satisfy you needs as a GM.

If there are any other questions concerning anything. let me know

I'll do a write up tomorrow while I'm on the train. Then i'll PM it too you.
Have you messaged the chap about a sub forum?

MSprange, about getting a sub forum to run this game in?
Sorry, should have explained that.
You can get a whole forum to ourselves by asking nicely.
Here, i'll link too mine.
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=104
That's what it looks like

Thanks, it will be very useful for stuff for the game such as sector infomation and the like. I will ask the dude

I have sent a message asking for it. I just need to wait until i get a reply. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Have you looked at http://www.travellermap.com/ as an interactive map? Zooms in to sector and even subsector. all canon.

the astrogation bubble was just something I liked that I tagged onto the port foreward wall just behind the bridge, added a telescope for visual analysis and in scanning planet surfaces.

I'm not saying this is the ship we should use; just giving ideas out of what I had before. It is pretty pricey. I had done some subsidized trading as well as speculative. with good die rolls and intelligent brokering, one can make a fair profit as one makes the rounds.

now if one is curious, there are tons of good deck plans over in http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=606 by Ky Ryn. I'll take some time to browse through those that I have already purchased and see if any look kewl enough.

I like the looks of the Exeter as a tramp freighter. If the basics look good, I can build up the design worksheet to fit the deck plans over the next few days. Crew are on the upper deck and passengers on the lower one with cargo at the bottom.

Posting the ship here instead of as a PM so that everyone can see it. Assuming TL-12 tech.
Notes: Downed jump to 2 because of how much fuel it needs. At 3 we were going to be down to 200 tons of cargo or less.
I'd quite like to get the cargo bay bigger, but I'm not sure how. It's probably fine. I wonder if it can pay for itself.
It costs a bomb. If we (somehow) filled the cargo bay with full range standard boxes of cargo, we would get 240,000 credits... I think this thing can be profitable...
Buggery. I just had a look at a mortgage. Who wants to try to make 2 megacradits a month

Hull: 600 tons, standard, self-sealing: 54 Mcr
Armour: Crystaliron 4 points, 30 tons: 9.6 Mcr
M-Drive: class F, 11 tons, thrust 2: 24 Mcr
J-Drive: class F, 35 tons, jump 2: 60 Mcr
P-plant: class F, 19 tons, rating 2: 48 Mcr
Fuel: 1 jump-2, 4 weeks, 144 tons
Bridge: 20 tons: 3Mcr
Comp: model 3, rating 15: 2Mcr
Electronics: Basic military, 2 tons: 1Mcr
Crew staterooms: 4: 16 tons: 2Mcr
Passenger staterooms: 8: 32 tons: 4Mcr
Low berths: 10: 5 tons: 0.5Mcr
Weapons:
2x triple beam laser, 2 tons: 8Mcr
1x triple sandcaster, 1 ton: 1.75Mcr
2x triple missile launcher, 2 tons: 6.5Mcr
Magazine:
3 tons sand (60 shots)
7 tons missiles (84 shots)
Small craft:
2 x ships boats, 60 tons: 35.7Mcr
Cargo: 211 tons

Total cost: 260,050,000 credits
Life support costs: 25,000
Maintenance: 21,670

Total monthly cost, pre mortgage: 46,670 credits

you mean reduces by 65 Mcr right?
Plus Mongoose is weird. 1d6 ship shares per ten years of age. And each ten years gives something weird. So lets say 40 years. that 4 weird things (such as upgrade sensors or -1 structure) gets us 4d6 ships shares, or an average of 14. Add my 4 to that, and we have reduced the price to 82%:
213,241,000 credits that is. Mortgage on that is only 800,000 credits a month.

Hmm... I don't know how profitable this thing will be without speculative trading...
200 tons of cargo, jump-2: 240,000
8 mid class passengers: 48,000
10 low class passengers: 12,000

Thats 300,000 credits per two weeks or so. We would need an extra 300,000 credits per month. That's a lot.

and don't expect full passenger or cargo loads each trip. if lucky, might average out to half loads so 300kcr per month. that's 600kcr short. ooch!!

Exactly. We might have to change some stuff...
How could we save cash? Buy a smaller ship? But then cargo space is smaller...
The weapons and the vehicles are a big part of the cash problem...

Also, as for design, I think I like wider, flatter designs that the rather common tube design.

There's the Far Trader, I thought this was a 400t but looking at the specs it's only 200t. Maybe a bigger version with the same deck design?

-Mac

True. I know the design, I did a 3D model of it, it's on this sight.
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=46572
That's the thread.
I do like that ship, and it's much cheaper than the above one. Hell, we could even arm it and keep it less than half the price.
I'd be happy with it. We could even take an older model (say twenty years) and drop its price by at least another 5%...
It is only jump 1 though... oh well. Maybe a jump drive upgrade could be something to think about once we're rich.
Are you happy with it Mac?
Dez, would you be ok with it?

Sorry, I was thinking of the Fat trader.

either one is fine with me. I have both deck plans. I am going to try to find my old ship, if only to have it to stare longingly at.

If we go with the fat trader (400t) I still recommend a J2 drive. That's 5t drive and 40t fuel extra but there are times when you can't jump to the next system without a J2.

(* imagine my sig here *)
