Paranoia Troubleshooters Questions

Hi all,

I just picked up this book and am relatively new to Paranoia. I know a little bit about Paranoia XP and the second edition. Reading through it, I have some questions.

1. Are service firms supposed to still exist? They are mentioned on page 7 but not detailed anywhere. I'm guessing no.

2. What is the economy like? It seems like the Computer supplies all needs based on clearance. How can you buy stuff then except through bonus money given with a commendation?

3. In the second column on page 11, the text states that characters get savings of 1,000 credits (about a month of ordinary expenses). On page 23 in the first column, they are said to start with 100 credits. Which is correct? (Also, if there is not a market economy, the reference to a month of expenses would be nonsensical.)

Thank you for your help with this.

1. Service firms still exist, but they figure more prominently in the upcoming High Programmers rulebook. For Troubleshooters missions you can safely ignore them.

2. The Alpha Complex economy is a weird little dollhouse simulation of an actual economy, where The Computer can, for entirely arbitrary reasons or no reason, make vast quantities of money appear and disappear in a microsecond. Wait, I think that's the case with our actual economy. Never mind.

For the purpose of Troubleshooters missions, the GM can award bonus money during or after a mission for whatever halfway-plausible reason. For an idea of the kinds of things PCs can buy, check the STUFF equipment books.

3. I don't speak for Gareth Hanrahan, who put together the Troubleshooters rulebook, but I believe 1,000 credits/month is correct.
