P&P playtest reports

Shall we wait for the next Extraction Beam rule iteration from the PTB before taking up the Vree again?

Some drive-by impressions on other things not specifically tested, but touched upon:

Xaar is much better on its own, but the playtest Extraction Rule plus the Xaar is repulsive.

Xeel is still horrifying because the Tzymm are horrifying. Tzymm only got a quick strike, but 14 twin-linked-plus dice from two fighters which cost 3/wing is still mortifying. If I hadn't taken a wing of Starfuries.... well, I don't want to think about it.

Initiate Extraction is the best anti-skindancing rule ever. Eep.

Demos is better than before. The CBD interaction is still annoying with the Slow-Loading weapons, and that makes it problematic. Without that, it and the Vorchan are now level. Given that the Vorchan is already a great skirmish ship, I don't think that I'd stomach any moaning about the downgrade to 6 AD of Ion Cannon; even more of a downgrade would be more justified than an upgrade to 8 AD.

Do you need more ISA vs. runs next, or shall we go to our next objective, attempting to abuse the Centauri Hunting Pack rule?

Other items on our list I think include:

-- New Bimith Defender
-- Dilgar Jashakar Alpha Strike Abuse fleet
-- Fetula Warrant Cutter
-- Haltana Gravitic Frigate abuse attempt (vs. boresighted Drazi)
-- New Shadows, with, well, everything
-- Drazi Attack Run (I think the Drazi are still hosed, but want to see again)
-- Custom-built raiders vs. the big 6 (EA, Narn, Centauri, Minbari, ISA, Old League).

Do you still need a pak'ma'ra ability?

i tried this new white star vs a EA fleet in a 3 pts raid he had 1 carrier with 8 thunderbolts and 2 hyperions i had 3 white star 1s

game went like this as best as I can remember

turn 1 white stars blasted to the side of an asteroid field hopeing to come around in behind the hyperions the carrier moves into asteroid field and spits out fighters.

turn 2 white stars come around asteroid field and line up the carrier 8 thunderbolts set apon one white star and destroys it one round of shooting. The white stars hurts carrier in return

turn 3 white stars line up carrier again to finish it off can't get covering pos from fighters who then cripple another white star with white stars finishing off carrier

turn 4 hyperions finnally get into the fight and but get nothing to shoot as fighters kill off crippled white star with the only white star left gets in behind hyperions

last turn hyperions kill white star with a run away rear beam roll while white star did no damage to hyperions thru fluffing the beam roll and pulsars not being able to get past interceptors

ea lost one avenger
isa lost all 3 whites stars

I got wasted by 8 thunderbolts seeing as i could not avoid them unless i stood off then I would be facing down the barrel of the hyperions. My plan I thought was sound using the asteroid field to take the hyperions out of the game for the best part what I did not count on was how much damage the fighters could put out.

this new change will force me to have to take escorts from now on and fighters (which i will have to buy or borrow)
I'm not a fan of taking allies to shore up weak spots in my list either but this change in the WS would change my mind on this.

If i was to fight this battle again I would not bother with the white stars at all. I'd take a gunship and blue stars. as these ships would be the main say of my lists and any allies that I think would suit (which i would have to buy)

Whilst I agree with majority - bit confused by "the Demos is better than before"? I presume you mean as the WS is s/r it is even more effective ratehr than in general as it has now (probably quite rightly) lost 4AD of Ion Cannons :?

It's sounds whitestars are having the same issue vorchans do.
Whitestars may need to be skirmish (make them more swarmish) & make skirmish ship raid whatever it is.
