Options for a new, maintained Wiki.

Given the constant hacks that are going on with the MRQ Wiki (it's turning into p**n, sometimes, and getting stuck in firewalls), it needs constant monitoring and amendment.

We have also not been able to contact Tim who set it up (ex-Seraphim Guard: I think he published the first MRQ OGL supplements) to put additional security on it, so a few of us think we have to move it so it can be controlled properly. Sceaptune Games can provide the host and name, but maintenance of it will need to be a joint, fan effort. If you wish to help, please get in touch with me via PM or email (buttons enabled below). I expect several people to be Admin and would hope for it to be a longer-term commitment.

The good thing is we currently have a choice of names. Are there any preferences?

I am not too bothered but chose .com as it is easier to remember. BTW thanks for doing this as I know it probably is in response to my recent thread about finding porn on the current site! :lol:

I think ".com" is probably best for ease of memory, as already mentioned. I would be interested in the ability to add and modify, but if you're talking about administration from a standpoint of constant monitoring, I'm not sure I could do that. I stay awfully busy with my work schedule! At any rate, I only recently started involvement with the wiki and added the Magnitude vs. Skill bit. It's a shame people have to keep hacking it. I know I've personally removed the plethora of links they throw in at least 2 times since I've been visiting. It sucks.

How about mrqwiki.com?

It is quick to type, easy to remember, and currently doesn't lead to anywhere when I type it into my broswer.

That way it will be eaqsy to find for those who lost their bookmarks, or are surfing away from home.

That's the thing than bugs me. It could be split to mrq-wiki or mrq_wiki if need be. All the sensible "mrq" names have gone, though.

The other option is rq-wiki, or RuneQuest-wiki, or something similar, that drops the "qwiki" completely.

I'm not convinced it's the mrqwiki that draws porn spam, as the domain for the wiki is actually "justanotherwebsite.net/mrqwiki". However, it's probably a good idea to move away from mrqwiki now that it's been identified as a target, especially as Tim has gone incommunicado.

Both runequest-wiki and runequestwiki 'com' domains are available, as are rq-wiki and rqwiki. Any of those are good, as they're easy to remember.

I agree that I doubt it was the name that drew the spammers, it was that one found out that it was an open wiki that anyone could post on at wich point they pass this on. As long as we keep it locked down I am sure we will not have an issue.

I guess this thread is now dead.

After some server hardware problems at the ISP (not a good start), we have http://www.mrqwiki.com/, a site that is just a placeholder for now.

We'll work on setting it up over the next few days.

It may _not_ be possible to install mediawiki, so we may be going with another one instead.
