Just a reminder that Mongoose is throwing open its doors on Saturday March 19th to introduce you all to A Call to Arms: Noble Armada. We'll be running games for novices and veterans alike, so all are welcome - all miniatures are provided and it will be completely free!

As well as the rulebook and fleet box sets, we will also have limited numbers of other ships, some of which won;t be released for quite some time.

We just wanted to get a sense of how many people to expect, so we can prep enough miniatures - so, if you are planning to drop in, shout out!

Just want to say that I had a wonderful time, really enjoyed meeting with you all.

I found the system really good and very easy to get to grips with excellent job guys.

We are just winding down here now from the Open Day. It really has been great fun, and I think we have won more than a few converts with the new systems - it seems to have gone down very well, with people finding it flowing very smoothly.

We have run a few King of the Jump Gate games, a couple of larger 'fleet' games, and ended up with a Big Ship Showdown - two tables of four players each, all against all, each having either a single Dreadnought or a Cruiser and two Frigates.

I'll let the others tell you all about the antics they got up to :)

Congratulations! Sorry I couldn't have been there but I have no doubt the Decados emerged victorious over all the lesser houses. Can't wait to get some first hand experience with the new game and miniatures.

The games played well with escalating ship types. People who played the new rules / setting enjoyed it.

After a few games people got used to the differing tactics and play style the differing Fleets.

I think the general consensus was that the game flowed quicker (with not worrying about the Crew Score) and the Critical system did work very well and was easier to manage.

Roll on the next Tourney :D

A friend and I have been debating how quickly games can be played with the new rules. We had hoped that removing the crew and changing the critical system as well as the reduced number of weapons rolls would speed game play. I confess I have been very curious about the size of fleets that can be played in say a two hour game. When we have played 2nd Edition it seems using three or four ships tended to be a lengthy game when we were just playing casually. But 3rd Edition is selling ships 3-6 per blister, we have been wondering is it really was possible to use 3 carriers or 3 destroyers easily in one game without it turning into an all day thing.

Sorry to dissapoint, but in my big ship game I despatched the Decados quite hyandily with my Hawkwood Dreadnought. Mwahahahahahaaaa!!!!!

Love that ship!

Once you get used to the rules the games do tend to flow well. With one less damage track to keep track of heps (no Crew). The Critical system does work well and is a good improvement.

The game lasts as long as a 2nd ed game, even with the added phase of Boarding. You can play a good sized game (1000 points equivalent to a Battle level game in ACTA 2nd Ed) in about 2 - 3 hours.

IIRC there is a large disparity in the ranges of the two ships - the Hawwood Dreadnought has vastly longer range and the Decados Dreadnought needs to close rapidly or get hammered with no possible response.............

Oh and LBH whats all this about you not wanting to see the babes in Sucker Punch - are you mad!?

re damage tracks - you do need to track shields for all ships which will normally fluctuate from turn to turn - I remain unconvinced that the loss of the crew track was a good thing but hey

I wasn't up against a Decados Dreadnaught, I was against their frigate and 2 Mantises. The Frigate held it's own till I finished it though, it did more damage to me than I did to it.

And that Sucker Punch thing I said was taken well out of context

thats because the hawkwood dreadnought is the most powerful one having greatest damage output. decados one nearly as good but not quite although looks far better.

The problem with the Hawkwood Dreadnaught is its poor speed. The Decados and the Hazat Dreadnaughts are much faster.

Yes its slow but it doesn't care IIRC as its range is most of the board? Hence not so much of a problem?

The Decados Dreadnought does indeed win out as the best looking by a long way...........at least IMO
