The thing about Starfuries is they are apart from the Nial the most maneuverable fighter in the series. We only ever see Sentris making sweeping turns where as Starfuries turn on a dime and spin around all over the place. Hell the Starfury design is obviously more capable as space fighter than most of the atmospheric designs used by other races. The Sentri doesn't have the engine arrangment to allow the maneuvers the Starfury can manage

Although I still fail to see why adding little flapping winglets makes the T-Bolt atmo capable... (ignoring the aerodynamic nose of course...)

When B5's starfuries are training anti-Sentri duty, (series 3 or 4?) they say the Sentris are more manouverable. Or was it that Centauri can withstand more G's? Same thing, really.

But its hardly much of an increase over the basic 'fury.

Anyway as I said its probably more to do with the nice aerodynamic fuselage...

(Though I guess they act as control surfaces, which is something it doesn't need for space flight...)

it was not so much that Centauri are better at withstanding G Forces it was more that theyre nutters who are willing to black out on autopilot to pull a tighter turn acording to Sheridan :P

Exactly.

And building a space superiorty fighter than can only do sweeping turns instead of an arrangement like the Furies, that can actually turn on a dime is kinda illogical.

In space there is no friction, no drag, no nothing. You will ALWAYS turn on a dime, relative movement to other thing notwithstanding, which is just a linear vector.

To be honest I can't think of a decent EA fleet that includes a Poseidon. But if you come up with one Reaverman, I'll be happy to lose to it for you ;)

LOL - you just want to "win" a mythbust! I'll be happy to write it up if you guys want to play...

We've seen the Narn Frazi do the turn on a dime thing too(when they're fleeing from the Shadow Fighters and then flip over to protect G'Kar while he continues fleeing). I think the rapid turning in space is pretty normal. Somehow I doubt that the Centauri Republic has less advanced fighters than the EA and Narn Regime. As much as it would amuse me for it to be so(being a Narn loyalist and all).

I figure the reason we see the sweeping turn out of the Sentri is that they're not trying to make a hard turn on that scene. Perhaps they're turning to attack something that's off screen? Or maybe they're just disengaging from that combat for unknown reasons? Or regrouping due to the squadron being split apart? Or a malfunction in the engines? Dunno.

It just looks cooler, why else have purple and gold ships if you can't do big fancy sweeping turns to show how pretty you are.

OK, 5 Point generic 3rd Age EA War fleet to try.

1 Poseidon Supercarrier
2 Omega Destroyers
2 Omega Destroyers
2 Nova Dreadnaughts, 1 Hyperion Heavy Cruiser
1 Nova Dreadnaught, 1 Hyperion Heavy Cruiser, 2 Oracle Scouts

Well I used it on Sunday against Vorlons... Hull 4 combined with Super AP, Beam, Triple Damage and Advanced Jump Point is not something I want to do again.

I used the following;

1 Poseidon Supercarrier
2 Omega Destroyers
1 Nova Dreadnaught
2 Artemis

Not the best fleet, then again fighters with a 2" range are next to useless against Vorlons now thanks to their special rule. Might use Thurdbolts next time... and drop the Poseidon Supercarrier for an Avenger and some Hyperions.

Or just pick a different opponet...

Think I'll take a Crusade Era list against Vorlons... lots of Hull 6 ships with Turret Rail guns and long ranged Missle racks. :D

Give the Poseidon 3+ Stealth or 4+ Stealth and then add some missle racks for long range attack.

It just needs Hull 5, having Hull 4 means that Super AP Beam weapons make sort work of it. It got shot once and was crippled,

But a stealth brick would be more interesting. The Ship is not a direct combatant, so it should be a stealthy ship and missiles would give it the long range to poke at the enemy every once in a while.

Problem with the Poseidon is, at war level it's a priority target. All the sweeter for being basically defenceless against anything above skirmish level. Added to that is its fighter complement, now dangerous and well worth removing before they're all launched if possible. Even if not, removing the command and fleet carrier bonuses is definitely a priority.

So, the damn thing takes fire like it has a big red crosshair painted on it. Every gun in the enemy fleet will be aimed at it if possible.

Yep totally good assessment of the Poseidon. Ini+3 ? Nothing better in the game, plus it is fleet carrier for 16! flights. So taking it down can only be good. And its Hull4 little defense extra. too good to pass up.

It has to get some roll to discourage direct contact. Often it is better to represent carriers with free flights, cause carriers shouldnt really be in the thick of it. Notable exceptions? Morshin, good stealth and nice weapons for defense.

Also the Balvarix!

Great traits and the hull 5/int 2 is decent defense for that level, plus a good solid weapon front and back.

The Garasoch is also a fighting carrier, although I use the "Carrier" term loosely (Carrier 2??). The weapons suite is (surprise, surprise) offensive.

While a small ship, the Milani is a Carrier with multiple flights, and, given how poor the Kotha is, most of its impact to a battle is in the front lines.

Yer but surprise surprise, the Milani has no carrier trait at all, makes it a very good fighting carrier.

I take it because of its combat laser, not to be had at raid, and not because of the Kotha.
