The Maximus now does what a Defense Frigate should do. The Guardian Array capability is very useful and very cool. It's just the direct combat hull it was. If you need a direct combat hull, and are looking for something other than a Vorchan or Demos (or even the newly capable Mograth!) I dont' know what else to tell ya. The Vorchan is a vile piece of military hardware with obscene amounts of DD weaponry at Skirmish level -- the Dilgar wish that any of their skirmish ships had guns like that!

Yeah it is still a Maximus - can't get better than that! Vorchan and Demos are both great - but Demos I think edges it on survability with the interceptor and ability to go to Close Blast doors every other round with still 10AD of TL DD coolness each rnd!(plus nasty missiles when not CBD!)

Greg utlines nicely why the Maximus is still great - also have a squadron and how many interceptors!!!!!!!!??

have fun - its great to actually have to think about which Skirmish hull to take now - Escort, Assault ships or Scout...............all worth while!

The Maximus now excels at supporting other Centauri ships, rather than being the linebreaker it nce was

Take a Maximus to protect other ships, take the Vorchan/Demos/Morgrath/Darkner to kill ships

yea see your point, at first glance they dont allways seem as good untill you see new ways of playing them.

gained +1 dogfight at last printing we saw, dunno in fleet list but at speed 16 and dogfight +1 yeah its useful. plus ur carriers are better (and you will need lots for cidikar).

it allows the Maximus to lend its interceptor dice to defend nearby friendly ships, at the cost of not being available to defend itself with those dice

i think its just for the centauri, any ship with escort and interceptors may lend them to another ship

No but other Centauri ships can get the escort trait through refits, and so become capable of it.

Guardian Array is a special rule for the Centauri - any ship with escort and interceptors may lend interceptors and/or antifighter to other ships.
