I ended up sending an e-mail to Rveal@mongoosepublishing.com and I received a prompt reply stating the following:
"Your copy sounds like it was one of the first batch, which had some badly cut cores. All the books have problems with the character sheet being cropped to close. I can send out a replacement copy if you would like a better one once they are made. However might be a bit of a wait on it until I clear the outstanding orders."
I do admit the phrases "once they are made" and "might be a bit of a wait" cause me some chagrin, but I do not believe Mongoose is out to rip anyone off. I am willing to be patient to get a new (and error-free) copy of FftD. It does sound like they have had more than a few gaffs with this endeavor, but hopefully this will be a learning experience and things will smooth out with the subsequent books.
The good thing is that there is obviously more demand for these books then Mongoose first suspected and realized, so I think we can take heart with that.
As for the unanswered e-mails people have been mentioning, I would suggest that you keep trying. Computers do have minds of their own. I am presently awaiting word on the exact address to send my defective copy back to (I am guessing it's the Ohio address since I am in the U.S.), and I realize it will be "on my own dime" but since the fault of the book's condition rests with Mongoose I am expecting/hoping to be credited somehow for that cost.
Anyway, I hope people won't get too discouraged and will give Mongoose a chance to even out the rough spots, as it were. I am really looking forward to seeing books 29-32 finally in print. Aren't you?
