JMS posted some comments on why he couldn't announce anything yet concerning his next project, B5:TMoS...

I know I've been absent for a while now, but there are reasons, especially in
regards to B5:TMoS. In a project of this nature, and this size, there's stage
one (let's do this) stage two (let's make everybody's deal) and stage three
(making it). We're hip-deep in stage two just now, and it's taking a freaking
long amount of time to get through it all. Stage two is also the most
unnerving and nerve-wracking stage when there's a lot of money involved, as
there is in this situation.

So every day is a case of "Are we there yet?" and being told yes...almost.

I swear, it's the kind of thing that could lead a monk to murder.

Thing of it is...there's a LOT happening right now in the B5 universe, on a
multitude of fronts, some of it in response to TMoS, some of it coming up
completely on its own. All I can say at this moment is that if you've been
waiting for new stuff in the B5 universe, you may be getting your wish in
spades very soon.

Soon, I promise, all will be made clear. I don't like being Mr. Mysterioso on
this, but if I say too much, the-powers-that-be will use my head to make a
2.35:1 sized hole in the wall.
This time I hope soon will really be ... soon. I'm getting a little reckless here...

Read the post from JMS again. He doesn't say anything, but he does. Read the last paragraph again. The clue is in the ratio...

Maybe I'm too much of a geek... (oi, stop sniggering at the back!)

Television ratio is 4:3.
Widescreen ratio is 16:9.
Cinemascope ratio, such as Star Wars, is 2.35:1.

I think this was JMS trying to give a strong a hint as possible, whilst leaving himself a little bit of breathing toom. Therefore, a 2.35:1 hole is about big enough to fit a feature film in....

Chobbly
(Who has probably got this totally wrong)...

Ooooooh!

Chobbly, you're as genius as the Great Maker.

Such subtleties eludes me most of the times. Ah, well...

Once JMS tells us we will let you know.
He only talks about the new show/movie/what ever it is as B5:TMoS. So you can come up with something and maybe not be wrong.

Goody *claps hands*

This was mentioned before waaaaaaaay back in 2002, but JMS commented that he didn't want to go up against star wars I - III in the cinemas.

Whatever it is, I eagerly await it. Based on the example of Crusade and LotR, the discussions/arguments trying to fit it into the established B5 continuity should be good for many hours of heated discussion!

Actually, any B5 is good B5, I just hope the weapons station from LotR is never to be seen again. :?

Aw, come on! There is room for B5 and SW, I mean it's not as if the silver screens were flooded with good SF these days, mmmh?

My guesses are:

Babylon 5: The Mother of Sequels
Babylon 5: Tough Minbari on Speed
Babylon 5: Ten Mouthfulls of Spoo
Babylon 5: Telepath Minions of Sheridan

:p

There are several places to go in the B5 universe.

We have an almost untouched on Telepath War that we know happened but no idea what happened.

They could advance the plots of either Legend of the Rangers or Crusade.

Somewhere between Londo's death and Sleeping in the Light, Centauri Prime is freed of the Drahk. That could make for some cool SciFi.

It could take us back in time to the Dilgar invasion.

These are all solid plots without even having to come up with a new storyline. I would even go so far to say I would rather see them address a known event than make something new up that will almost invariably look tacked on (kind of like Legend of the Rangers did).

ok lets go at it from a different angle... if it is going to be a feature film... then it cant be something that only B5 nuts will enjoy it has to be for a bigger audiance... so id rule out the Telepath war because you would have had to had watched the TV show to completely understand that... unfortunatly id have to say the same thing with The Centauri being freed from the Drahk..... or unfortunatly Crusade.. and or Ledgend of the Rangers...

but if it where to be a movie good plots could be

the Technomage Trillogy
the Dilgar war
the Earth Minbari war (in more detail)

just my 1.5 cents worth.. this thought is probably not even worth 2 cents...

Eryx that is a seriously SICK thought.. you need to wash your own mouth out with soap for that thought.....

but i could see that being ither a Centauri or Narn porn flick since both races seem to love Spoo.... allbeit at different tempratures tho.....

I agree with the first paragraph and I'll comment on the rest.

The Technomage Trilogy could be very interesting and a lot of fun for the FX people, but I'm not sure it would reach a large enough audience. Though, the same could be said, and probably was said, of the Matrix.

This one has the best chance of the three in my mind. There are a lot of things going on that could be reflected in the movie. But the trick here would be to pick a plot that would be personal enough to draw the audience in. It's a a big war, with lots of different races, and millions of combatants. So he'd have to decide where to focus. I have no idea myself how to go about it.

I don't think the Earth/Minbari war even needs to be addressed. It has been covered in a great deal of detail though you can do a lot of things that occur on the edges. Like the Belt Alliance's efforts to rescue civilians from Minbari blockaded worlds. However, I don't think this would really go over well in theaters as their is no big finale. Just the side whupping our buts decides to stop for no reason whatsoever right before they deliver the coup de gras.

Maybe he'll do something specific within the Psi Corp. A prelude to the Telepath Wars to be done in later movies (as a trilogy of course).

As for the porn, well, I hardly think JMS' B5 venture into film would be an ode to Narn or Centauri hedonism.

As for the Narn/Centauri ode to hedonism  I kinda doubt it.
