New Units or Army Lists for Battlefield Evo: Modern?

Heinz

Mongoose
It may not be officially supported anymore, but my group is still playing (and loving) Battlefield Evolution: Modern Warfare. Now, there were a number of lists and new units created by a Polish veteran that were listed on Battlefield Evo Command for the old edition. There were also new lists and units for the Heer and the USMC for the new edition, presumably by another author. My sincere thanks to them, whoever they are. I apologize that I have no information on who they are or how to contact them or I'd thank them directly.

What I'm wondering is, does anyone know of any other modern lists or new units other than those? We would love to further expand our games to include other armies, time periods (Arab-Israeli Wars, Africa's wars of the 1960's - 1980's, Lebanon, etc.), and new units. Does anyone have anything?

And does anyone know of a method for converting those old-format units from Battlefield Evo Command to the new stats and point system?

Much thanks!

I did a couple of extra army lists for the BE: Modern Combat (the newer one). Most of the unit cards were superseded by the new lists in the book, I think, so comparing the differences in the 2 should give you a frame of reference, points-wise. Beyond that, I don't think there really was a set 'points list' - it was pointed up at what was felt to be a reasonable amount for the lists. As to doing new lists - I would suggest the Micromark army list series as a base (on wargame vault, I think) and working things out from there?

Guys, thanks so much for the replies.

Barnest2, much thanks for the offer, but I'm trying to avoid sitting down and writing lists, if I can avoid it. It may come to that, though. I know I'll have to write a few units, just to cover things I've bought from RHModels (I highly recommend Liberation Miniatures 20mm moderns that I buy from them). For instance, I think it's reasonable to assume the MEA could have access to Sagger operators and DShK teams. I'll definitely hit you up if I decide to write some lists.

Rick, I'd love to see your work. Are these lists posted anywhere? I'll definitely look into this Micromark series of lists. I confess, I'm totally unfamiliar with them. Are they like generic TO&E's or lists for a specific game system?

Much Thanks again, guys! And please, by all means, keep the submissions coming!

-D

Hi Heinz - submitted them to Matt Sprange - although he expressed interest in using them, I think interest in the game fizzled out before he could - so they were probably shelved. I'll have to post them on here at some point. The micromark army lists are to&e's of actual units - split into 'teeth' and 'tail' units - so he'll show the vehicles, equipment, etc. in units building from a platoon up to a division. You need to be able to research the section organisation for a skirmish game, but that's not too problematical - overall they're an excellent resource. They are rules-free, so are more like a reference list than an actual army list - download the free guidance notes for the lists (may take a little bit of searching to find it!) and that should explain a few things as well as the codes he uses for training/morale.

Thats the final one - 7 pages. Most of the assets and weapons are in the main BfEvo: MC Russian lists and I have tried not to reprint them here, just the ones unique to this list.

Rick,

First, much thanks for this recon list. This is stupendous - exactly what I was looking for. Would love to see the other list you did, as well. If you're looking to sell it, you might inquire with Zupan Development. They say they have some lists in the works for Battlefield Evo Modern on their site, but I haven't been able to confirm yet whether they're still working on them. There's always Wargames Vault and such, too. If you should list it on Wargames Vault or E23 or one of those, please let me know.

I was able to find the Micromark lists, too. I may be investing in a few of those. I was surprised to see that they have so many TO&E's for the modern Syrian Army, which is what I've loosely based my MEA force on. Information on the modern Syrian Army is really hard to come by.

You've been a tremendous help. I'm in your debt.

:D

Thanks for those kind words Heinz and glad to have been of some small help. I'll post the other finished list up here at some point; it's a German Jaeger list (Gebirgsjaeger/Fallschirmjarger) - good for Afghanistan games. I've not really thought about selling them: really they've been for my own amusement - I'll have to update and finish some of the others I've been working on as well - maybe if I get a few more together I may consider putting out a pdf, we'll have to see.

As to the micromark lists - they are an excellent resource aren't they? You still need to do a bit more research to turn them into a skirmish list, but they have a lot of useful information in them.

One other thing - Agis Neugebauer has recently released a ww2 game with some similiar mechanisms to the Battlefield Evolution game - he's also mentioned that he might do a modern version as well. The set is called 'Victory Decision' so it might be worth keeping an eye out!

Rick, that's funny you should mention Victory Decision. I visit Agis' site regularly. His painting is a great inspiration. Just the other day I emailed him and asked if he had plans for a modern rules set. He said it will come in time, but at the moment he's focusing on Victory Decision.

I'm looking forward to seeing your jaeger list. I had once planned to build a Heer force. I may still if I ever finish all my MEA projects.

As for the Micromark lists, I haven't ordered any yet, so I haven't had a chance to look them over, but they do look promising.

I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your lists. Thanks again!

Ok - got the second of the finished lists here. I've taken a slight liberty with translating 'Jaeger' as 'Ranger' - not a precise translation, but one that emphasizes the elite status that these units possess.

Ok - 9 pages this time, but there are, in essence, 2 army lists in one! Similiar comments to the previous list - I've tried not to duplicate stuff that's in the main rulebook; so most of the weapons, etc. will be in there. You might also notice that they don't get any armour assets - it's not an oversight; it reflects there role as light infantry - they do, however, get some anti-armour weapons in case they need to go up against tanks!

Why is your eurofighter using a TOW? it cant operate them. Why not maverick or brimstone...

ETA: Oh wait, I think I misread... oh well...

Yeah - perhaps I should've left a bit more of a gap between the entries to make it clearer, sorry for the confusion - the TOW2 is actually for the Wiesel.

But please do let me know if I've made any mistakes in the lists - sometimes I just can't see the most obvious ones.

Equipment wise it looks fine. I just thought the eurofighter was using stinger and Tow, when it cant use the second... which would make the list odd

Actually - I just realised that I've left something out - I forgot to put in the lists that the Russian Long Range Recce units will also get the 'Dogged' special rule. Oops! I've only just realised as I was updating and sorting out a Canadian list.

Alright. Now I'm psyched. I may hafta start writing a list or two to put up here. I'm thinking some Lebanon 1980's lists might be fun. The problem is that it takes time away from the mountains of miniatures and terrain I have to paint.

Don't it just - just finishing off a Canadian Mechanised list, that'll go up soon - but also realised I may have to revisit some of the points values on the Jaeger list; some of them are looking a bit on the expensive side! Getting the balance right is the tricky bit, lol!

Hopefully, if I can get a few lists done and on here, it'll give a database of vehicles or units that can be used/adapted in other lists. That should make things a bit faster!
