New Books, Please?

Sorry, we really are trying to get through everything as quickly as possible, but we won't release anything until we feel it is done properly!

That works for me. :)

Anyone else feel that the latest activity on the Legend front could be whetting one's whistle for a coming new Legend release? Is it too soon to start keeping my fingers crossed?

The question is will it be another historical based version or something original like Historia Rodentia was?

Anyone know what happened with that, was sales so low as to make them untenable?

Personally hoping for another Arcania, City, Equipmeny, Monster or Sheoloth book. Don't really like the historical stuff.

Based on the books I submitted, you could get two out of those five ...

Arcania or Equipment book I'd love to pick up, still behind on the Monster of Legend books well the second one at least!

I really need to take another look at the Citys you mentioned.

Very good to know!

We have had this discussion about new books going for a year (if we count also the previous thread). I haven't bought Legend books since January 2015, when I ordered Elementalism directly from Mongoose, because it wasn't available in my local RPG store at that time.

So, despite all the promises of the future books, I'm starting to get the feeling that the game is practically abandoned, especially when I look at the Mongoose release schedule and see how well supported Traveller is. Or when compare Legend's release schedule to recent releases of the other RPGs.

I agree especially as I still don't know if there wasn't any interest in the Historia Rodentia they released for use with Legend and I'm very interested in that!

Well okay I used that to introduce those into a post-apocalyptic game ala Rats of Nym although they were being used as npcs with a particular pair I'm having to jury rig their stats since they're a pair of meercats based on the tv commercial pair!

Still have fond memories of that game would like one day to return to it!

The books I submitted contain material which could be used for campaigns. You could dip into the books and use various bits of them in your own games, but there's a whole setting in the back - and the plan is that, if you like what I've done, there could be future books submitted to expand upon the setting and open up whole new realms and kinds of adventure.

So it's really a matter of time and Mongoose's being able to free up enough resources to allow them to send my stuff to print.

At the moment we seem to be in a weird holding pattern because all of the available production resources are committed to the new edition of Traveller. That's understandable form a commercial perspective, but it does leave Legend feeling unloved (even though it is still the no 1 bestseller for Mongoose on DriveThru). The game line hasn't been officially cancelled and there new material has been submitted for publication - plus there are still a number of MRQI and MRQII books that could be reworked as Legend releases with minimal work (Empires? Necromancy?). But we've been stuck in limbo for an extended period and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. The recent Bundle of Holding has been the first activity for the system for a long time and is hopefully be a sign that things will improve. But it's unclear whether this is the case - interest in the Bundle of Holding seems to be lukewarm, perhaps reflecting that many gamers think of Legend as a "dead system" now.

I don't like thinking of it like that. I am kind of hoping to see my stuff in print. If nothing else, because I'd kind of like to see some sort of revenues from those books, and I'd hate - truly hate - to have to look for another company to publish my stuff.

Anyway, I'm capping out at three books submitted. Their queue is long enough. No point lengthening it.

I'm tempted to switch back to Traveller with some short TAS books. Currently in the middle of writing Legend fiction, Lady Jorana's Garden, and a short story - superhero fiction for a competition - but I'll happily squirrel away on a new Traveller book or two and run it through TAS. Make them paying gigs. Lots of little paying gigs, instead of putting all my faith in two or three big ones that might take years to get published (through no fault of Mongoose - their queue really is choked solid).

I'm trying to get Legend based books with my own game but working a day job combined with personal commitments makes it hard.
