National Science Fiction Day - January 2nd

Today is National Science Fiction Day - one of those made-up holidays to celebrate something fun. Issac Asimov's birthday was chosen to be National Science Fiction Day for the US.

What new (published in the last 12 months) science fiction book (or adjacent non-game material) have you read?

A bit non-traditional for these forums but my current read is "Murder at Martingale Manor" part of the Chronicles of St. Mary's series by Jodi Taylor.

For those unfamiliar with the series (27 in total):
Researchers and Librarians from the Institute of Historical Research, investigating major historical events in contemporary time. Do not call it time travel.

New? None. It's quite possible I will never read a new SFF book again.

I did polish off the Virginia Edition of Heinlein's works and the first (depending on how you define 'first', and skipping two because they were rewritten later) five Darkover novels. Yes, I know Marion Zimmer Bradley was a monster.

Miles has so far characterized Ivan as having a lazy intellect.

And it's hard leaving out the boring parts, trying to keep a cohesive narrative.

After writing and cowriting almost 50 novels, I have discovered that not to be the case for me. It might be because I'm a discovery writer (pantser) and go to the next fun thing as fast as possible. ;)

Ivan is lazy, though not stupid, but that isn't enough to save him forever.

I really need to catch up on these. I devoured everything of McMasters Bujold over the years until I basically stopped reading about 15 years ago, due to unrelated, mostly mental health issues. Now that I'm slowly getting back to having some interest, I really need to see if she's done anything new.

It's worth it. Ivan even gets a book of his own. Maybe two. I can't remember.

I've had a slack year - not read almost anything, but I do have a few banked up. Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary, John Scalzi's When the Moon Hits your Eye, maybe some others, but I think those are non-fiction or other than science fiction.

Project Hail Mary was a good one.
