I think it should be called, "Stupid design not incorporating spin for pseudo-gravity thus leading to a death trap for humans that scientists in the 50's were smart enough to consider." Heck, they designed an inflatable rotating station back then!
knowing the equations, you'd need a pretty decent radius of station to get close to normal pseudo grav without a very noticeable differential in the height of the average human.
It's doable, but it'd need to be big. ANd you so would NOT dock a shuttle with a rotating part of the station like they do in Armageddon, for oh so many reasons.
Docking is at the hubs like 2001 Space Odyssey. Energy for spin up can be achieved for free by docking shuttles at the rim until speed is at required rate.
