Locutus's Point is exactly mine. The maneouverability of the WS guarantees that it will get its shot. Will the Rongoth get the same?
There is a dead spot on every Rongoth, 8.5" directly astern of it, that, if you face the same direction as the Rongoth (or even pretty much the same direction), the Rongoth cannot get out of arc of the INL. With 2/90, and, if you absolutely MUST have it, Come About hits 50% of the time, the WhiteStar should certainly get this shot. For the Rongoth, APToE gets you 8" of move -- 16.5" from the WS -- which certainly isn't out of range, and Come About gets you to 1/90, which isn't enough to get you out of a 90 degree firing cone. So, depending on how many WS bases you can jam in there -- and it should be all 3 at worst -- after turn 1 there will always be 1 Rongoth that gets no shot at all. And, of course, if the Rongoth doesn't make a solid move, it could set up a fairly free CAF for next turn if you fail two come abouts in a row.
And, while the existence of this Dead Spot means I can choose any Rongoth I want to engage -- it's very hard for the Rongoths to make me fire on any other target -- the Rongoths can't say the same. Yes, a stopper crit will do the trick, absolutely, but aside from that, I don't see why the ISA can't pick the WhiteStar the other 2 Rongoths try to get a shot at by moving fresh WhiteStars first -- forcing you to fire on all 3 before you start getting kills.
I'm very willing to Vassal this --- I really think the WS's will win handily. Work is bad this week -- perhaps Friday?
n.B.: Reaverman is exactly right on initiative -- +2 vs. +2.
