Naming ships, colour schemes

all lies! the EA lost an astounding number of ships, and but for a "friendly" merc donation, would not have been fielding full strength fleets in the last battles, somewhat against the merc doctrine to donate 4 credits or whatever to the EA forces, but I think we suspected it would happen anyway :-)

I took out a Secundus and Altarian of Jim's in our first game. He then went and torn Shane's G'vrahn a new one with his Liati's. We were very lucky, I think by the end of the game the G'vrahn had only 1 crew left.

Mike's Drakh did ok if memory serves me correctly in the same game

For my Centauri:

Big ships of the line (Octurion, Primus, etc.) get gothic or latin names that sound impressive and just a bit ostentatious (my most successful Octurion is called Vulgotha).

Cruiser-type ships (Centurion, for example) get martially-influenced latin names.

Smaller ships (not counting Vorchan and Demos) get Roman tribal names. If they are especially sleek or fast, I go for latin bird names.

Finally, all Vorchans and Demoses (Demoi?) get Roman female names.

Well you did ask me to post - so if you don't like em ............ :D

I do and don't care what anyone thinks  :D

my attempt at a Liati - Jim's is much better!

I think I'll call my Octurion... Octurion!
Are they really as wimpy as some people complain? Too bad, love the model...

I vary my ship names on a campaign or battle by battle basis.

I have recently discovered the joys of Velcro and have put velcro on my ship basis, allowing me to change the names of my ships as I see fit.

I often wonder however, if the name of the ship effects an opponent's attitude towards it. For example would people target an EAS MArgaret Thatcher over an EAS Fluffy Kitten?

I did notive at the campaign weekend that when I had lent the Raider player two of my Novas to use instead of counters, they did seem to draw a lot more fire than they did before. Maybe mini's look more menacing?

They look quite red to me Boss... And the Liati looks much better already.

If you give them some wash, I think they'd work pretty well. Red Fleet, Hunter Killer division...

Yes hiffano a list of huge asses.

Nice David and Da Boss  The red is cool idea to my idea for mines was to just paints different parts of the ship red and purple to give them a different feel to the old tradtional theme, Not like there's anything wrong with it.

I havent use the octurian yet but it must pack a punch of its own if the primus is good at it.

Shut Up Hippie!: You have a good point about the names but i mainly do it cause its cool and makes it easier to work out targets if you have several of the same ships on the board. Sometimes tho i feel if the ship has a unique name it does bring you luck but some might feel other wise but thats just me of the years playing warhammer i guess :P.

I can see why people were calling them orange. I can't tell from the pics if you gave them the white primer or if it's just the light, but they are very much borderline. Like a Barn Red rather than a Blood Red.

They look red to me, but more of a red orange. I've used Blood Red from all the different GW lines of paint and they have all had an orange tint to some level. The newest one is much less orange though.

One thing that is probably affecting some people's perception of the color is the very yellow gold. The red and yellow are contrasting and making the red look orange. Your eyes are naturally blending them. If you cover up the gold parts of the ships, you'll see that they look less orange and more red, although not completely.

I've named my centauri ships after roman weapons &/or millitary units...
(roman cause centauri have a very headonistic roman feel to them)

example....
Adira... Cingulum
primus... Spiculum
primus... Lancea
centurion... Martiobarbulus
centurion... Sagittarii
demos... Verutum
demos... Pilum
demos... Contus
vorchan... Gladius
vorchan... Pugio
vorchan... Spatha

hope that helps...
