Moving from 1st edition to 2nd edition

Hi,

I've tried to search for an answer to this so sorry I've missed it.

I have ACTA 1st edition and want to buy second edition. Do I need to buy both the rules and fleet lists?

What is the point of selling these separately if you always need both?

Thanks.

To your first question: Yes you need both

To your second: Basically as I understand it its so that they can do at the end of each year an updated fleet list book as necessary without changing the rules themeselves :)

You don't technically need the fleet book to play, the rules book has cut-down versions of the fleet lists for the major races. So you can get started with just the rule book. But if you want to expand your fleets to include more races and/or more ships, youneed the fleet book.

Also it's probably lot better idea to have them in 2 books than in one book(too thick). Guess they could release packet solution where you get 1 but if price is same where's the difference really? Separate books allow more flexibility(as said they have small fleet lists so beginner could get just rules and later fleet book).

also so its easier to replace one when the pages fall out

That too

Though atleast the rulebook has suprised me with how well it holds. No problems so far though I expected it to fall apart fast. Fleet book no problem atleast.

Yep, otherwise they may have issues with binding :o

And even if the bindings were perfect I MUCH rather prefer browsing fleets from one not-so thick book than from thick book where I need to skip on rules first.

Rulebook+fleet list would have by the very least require coloured pages with different colour per sections so you could relatively quickly jump into right section. Epic Armageddon did that though they did have only 3 armies to deal with so that makes it easier ;-)
