The more of 'Monkey' I read the more convinced I am.... (I have a abridged version that concentrates on the dialogue and spirits, rather than fitting in all the adventures)

Its really hard to get an unabridged version in England... especially mail order. 1800 pages... wow... :shock:

Generally I go for the unabridged versions where possible, but in this case there were simply many different translations, but in the end I went for the one that had the most of the spirits and their dialogue.

Monkey truely is irrepressable!

as you two are the experts on monkey in book form in this forum which english edition should I go for? and were is the best place too pick one up i.e does amazon stock it?could you please give the full title so know I am getting the correct one 8)

I am reading the Penguin edition 'Monkey' (rather than Journey to the West) reduces the number of tales but expands and concentrates on the dialogue between characters.

Pigsy and Sandy Priest have just been recruited along with the imprisoned Monkey, to take the scrolls of the Buddavistta wisdom to India, in return for being pardoned for their sins against heaven.... Along with some Dragon matey

Amazon stock this and a number of other versions (Journey to the West)

You're welcome, everywhere I go people are talking Monkey! Last night in the pub... My parents.... my sister.... my landlord...

They all got the Monkey bug.... Everyone except mongoose....

Mongoose is still however Irrepressable..... :shock:

My books are from Foreign Language Press Beijing. So is my Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin! :lol: They have old art and vivid descriptions. I can't say about my fine friend's editions but I'm not disappointed with mine. I like the long versions, but that is just habit. My favorite games are big books too! 8)
