Missle and Torp critical hit ability

I'd suggest adding a line to standardize missile and torp critical hits:

A missile attack is the equivalent of a turret and barbette, a torpedo is the equivalent of a medium bay, for ships that that can avoid a critical on attack.

Either that or please confirm if a hit from a salvo of a particular sized bay is intended as the determinant. (which I'm not sure makes sense, 500 triple turrets of missiles simultaneously firing under coordinated software is a mighty big bang.

Matt already confirmed so. I posed the exact same question :)

He's stated he's fine with the critical ability being based on the launching mechanism (bays, barbettes, etc) - akin to more impactful tandem salvos or so :)

What about a ship with missile bays and missile turrets? We combine all missiles fired at the same ship into a salvo, so we are not even keeping track of which salvoes contain missiles fired from turrets.

I see it as a school math problem:

A ship fires missiles from: 3 double turrets, 1 triple, one medium bay and one Barbette, in a salvo.

The enemy ship is 10k tons, and manages to EW 4 missiles and PD 8.

The salvo hits with 2D rolling 10 for attack and damage die of 4 each. The armor of the 10k ship is 1.

How many criticals does the ship suffer?

I am messing here :D

To this... I can only answer... Yup?! :(

So how do I know if the salvo can crit?

It seems to be impossible unless you create your own rule about whether 50% of the missiles are from bays, or make it based on Salvo size, or missile type... I've recommended one of the last two. Torpedo vs Missile would be more accurate but salvo size would probably be more realistic.

Perhaps Matt will have a change of heart on this :)

Perhaps against ships immune to crits from turreted weapons, crits would only apply when the damage total crossed one of the 10% hull damage thresholds.

For simplicity sake all missiles of the same type should be considered a single salvo. Might be easier to handle a crit roll simply by setting a threshold. If your die roll and bonuses exceed that threshold you get a hit (or maybe you get to roll on a crit table to determine how many crits?).
