Miniatures

I'm currently doing some top-down's as well, however, instead of printing them out, I use them in a virtual tabletop (since all my rpg play is done this way now).

I'm sorry, I live for the Face to Face.... But, just in case Which software package do you use?

Do you draw your own or do you find stuff that's been already done? I'm using Inkscape at the moment, but still learning the software. Drawing by hand is easy for me, but getting used to drawing/coloring/shading inside software is still rather new for me.

I do both.
For computer base illustration I use Adobe's Graphic Suite, mostly Illustrator with a little bit of Photoshop. But, I use this professionally. A good package is Campaign Cartographer with the Cosomographer add-on. I used to use it a lot, but when I switched to a Mac as my main machine 3 years ago I kinda switched. But when replacement time comes for this laptop, the next one will dual boot just for CC.

Heck, you don't even need to go dual-boot; parallels allows you run XP or vista in a manner that you have XP/V windows in your mac environment.

CC2 and CC3 both play nice there, too. (Unlike WINE and the commercial version thereof, Crossover.)

That is what I have heard, but I have one of the last of the G4 iBooks, and Vm ware runs just too slow and clunky.... If only I could have waited 30 days...

I usually try to find graphics made by others, then edit them, to save time. This was easy for a Star Wars campaign, but seems to be more difficult to find top-down graphics of Traveller vehicles (starships are easier to find).

To that end I've begun making top-down Traveller graphics using Autorealm, that I normally use to make deck plans.

Ain't that the truth, maybe we should build a site some were where we could donate/post stuff like this.

How does that work for y'all, I discovered it rather late and as such have several packages never put much time into it.

There is another package I haven't mentioned, I haven't used it in years, and that is Nbos' Fractal Mapper it is more akin to a paint program than a cad program, but it has a relatively small foot print, and easier learning curve than some of the others that I have mentioned.

15mm is my fave by far, due to the wide range of options. Many modern and even repainted ww2 guys can work fine for Traveller as well, and you can draw on companies like GZG for scifi troopers that look perfect for Trav

Don't blame you for loving F2F, I do too, but as it stands most of my old gaming buddies are spread out and I'm pretty happy to have found an alternative to getting around the table. Coupled with VOIP software, it's pretty close.

I use several VTT's actually, depending on what would be most right for the game. I've got Fantasygrounds, Battlegrounds RPG and Maptool.

Ain't it grand, where I started this madness 5 some odd years ago the selection of new figures wasn't so good, but eBay was rife with the classic traveller 15mm figures, I have most of the ones released by Citadel, most of the decent one from Martian Metals (ok and fair number of the crappy ones). But I got more than I ever thought possible numbers of the Traveller Aliens. Digging into PeterPig's AK47 and wild west line I have more human civilians than I thought possible also. So the figures are out there.

Can you tell I'm a raving fan? I have learned to be loud about what I want, it has gotten a lot of response. GZGs expanding line has been one result of telling manufactures what I want. If you chip in too, it makes more likely.

So how many of y'all read The Miniatures Page on a regular basis?

I used to hang on TMP all the time, but after my last doghouseing, I havent been back.

I felt, and still feel that

1. They other guy started it.
2. I was no more offensive than the other guys.
3. I may well have deserved banning, but so did the others if I did, and they didnt get it.

Bill plays favorites a lot there, and I am not one of them, so sometimes it hinders my ability to respond properly to abject knucleheads. I should not complain, Sam Mustapha, a history Professer, and auther of a great set of rules has been banned 19 times last time I checked. I have a long way to go to catch him, and he doesnt seem to be slowing down.

So have any of y'all bought pre-printed sheets?

Or Pdf's?

I have bought and used Paper for games before. In this last year or so I have also tried to do my own. They are not great, but they work.

Here is a sample of some troops and their light IFV.

Having been doghouse for pointing out and obvious troll I feel your
pain man. But I did break the rules. But it is still the closest thing
we have a central clearing house for miniatures information.
But, I tend to only hit the boards that I have interest in and no
farther. It helps to ignore the knuckleheads and complain to Bill
instead of responding directly to them.

See, It is the entire bit about emoting when people are being that way..

Too cool junior, I like the inclusion of the PeterPig droids.

Thanks, I added the Peter Pig Droid because I have them in my metal painted army as well and thought they made a nice addition.

Just to be clear, Junior General is a web site where many of us share our work. It has paper figures from the whole range. Ancients to SciFi and lots in between.

They have been some of my favorite figures for years. It seems every time I order PeterPig from Brookhurst I add in another package from them.

Speaking of which I need to place an order for some Navel infantry, soviet from the ww1 & 2 lines, and some british from the Sudan. I am gonna add them to my game, been reading Drake's Leary books....

Heh.... Well, go to town which ever way. May I point out for the most part Jon's 25mm is a match for the classic Grenadier figures, not the current 28mm+s.

I'd like to add that GZG's UN troopers look almost identical to Imperial Battle Dress. I've used them for this for years.

To answer the original question, I'm a 15mm guy. I have some of FASA's old sets of deck plans with 1/2" squares. The bases on GZG's 15mm figures fit beautifully!

15mm. For modern/futuristic settings you need the space for shootouts. I've got some 25mm which scale onto the GURPs Traveller Ship Deckplans range. Might find out how useful the6 are soon as my crew are due for some undesirable shipboard action in their Marava. New packs of figures with Traveller aliens from Mongoose would be nice.

Not just aliens, but ship crew, military and civilians as well. Yes, I agree, all of these from Mongoose.
