Minbari Painting Tips

Hi... I am BRAND spanking new to modeling, and am starting with a couple of Minbari ships. I'm looking for any and all painting tips/suggestions that you have and are willing to share! I'm starting with a Tigara Attack Cruiser, Leshath Heavy Scout, and a few flights of Nials, just to get painting experience.

Undercoat them white. Once dry, get some dark blue paint (or whatever color you want to paint them), and thin it out, like 2 parts water to 1 part paint. Glop it over the models, don't let it pool except in recesses. Let it dry. Do again till they are as dark as you like them. This method will give you instant highlights (blending as well) since the blue paint/water will not completely cover the white undercoat. After that you can do some touch up painting whit a lighter color. You can also dry brush (I know some people don't like to but its easy and quick) the ships whit some white or really light blue, once done to pick up the details.

That's how I did mine at least. Most painless painting exercise yet. They came out pretty nice too.

The way I painted mine was start with a basecoat of lightish blue/turquoise (I used the GW acrylic Hawk Turquoise) over a white undercoat. After that I highlighted it by drybrushing with white. I then painted on the stripes using a very thinned down dark blue (GW Regal Blue in this case). I painted the stripes very lightly using multiple coats. This breaks up the egdes and create a nicely blended effect.

After that I added a very thin wash of the original turquoise to unify the colours and then varnished them.

Karhedron, those are some of the nicest looking Minbari I have seen. Makes me want to go back and repaint mine.
