Military Academy and EDU

This was asked before, in one of the Errata posts, but doesn't appear to have been answered...

One of the grad benefits of Military Academy says "Increase EDU by an additional +1."

But there is no initial EDU increase listed for attending. Is this a typo? Was there supposed to be a base +1 EDU like University? It would make sense.

What's the official word on this?

I have no idea what the official word is, but I assume the "additional" a copy/paste error.

If they copied it over from the University section they might have reduced it from +2 to +1, that is how the sentence in the University section is written. University grants +1 EDU in the Skills section, and then in the Graduation benefits section it says to increase EDU by an additional +2. So this could be a copy/paste error, or just keeping the same sentence structure from the University page. It does sort of imply there should be an EDU +1 bonus in the skills section for going through the Academy in the first place. Nice catch. That is a point to quibble over.

Boosting EDU by +2 for military types would give a nice skill check boost on all the EDU based skills.

Yeah... this was asked before, and a lot of you folks chimed in with good opinions. But, I just didn't see an official response form Mongoose. Do they monitor this forum?

Yes it is monitored, though possible that something gets missed on occasion.

Matt in the past is only so interested in clearing up every little rule issue. If we tied him down and forced him to respond, my guess is that he would tell you to decide for yourself.

My guess as to the actual intent is that the “Additional” carried over from the University section in error and that this one particular word should be deleted in the academy graduation section. But if you want to give a +1 EDU for attending academy, and another +1 for graduation, it won’t break the game.
