Might of Magnamund, or not? …

The barge owner from the Jungle of Horrors, for one (I don't know why that one sticks in my mind so much). I can't remember which book it is, but at some point three or four humans show up with guns to quell some sort of brawl (I think--mind's a bit fuzzy on this one beyond knowing it happened similarly to this). The important point is that while they aren't common by any means, they're also not so rare that average citizens don't own them, and the dwarves certainly aren't policing them so closely that none fall out of dwarven hands.

Book 21, and all of these weapons are called Bor Muskets, rather than Bor Rifles. I'd imagine them to be considerably cruder than the Bor Rifles as seen in the RPG.

As far as I can recall, every example of Borese weaponry in the gamebooks (including the Dwarves weapons in Book 5) are Bor Muskets except for the Bor Pistol that the Bhanarian squad leader has in Book 27. And I've not read 22, 24, 25, 26 or 28.

A fair enough distinction, but the word in question was "guns," which applies to both "rifles" and "muskets." Even so, not a distinction I was aware of.

I'm not sure if it was an intended distinction by the RPG writers, but it seems to me a logical one, and a neat way of closing the loophole of the rarity of Dwarven rifles.

-GB, who will bend over backwards to justify minor quibbles if he generally likes the material in question.

I would like to point out one thing..
after book 12 war tecnology may be much more developed and available to common humans.. but let's remember that we are playing 75 years before and without the darklords having developed war metallic ships armed with cannons...

so maybe all rifle or musketters found in books 13-28 do not have so much importance in determining whether guns are common, rare or impossible to find earlier in history...

I just love how the Bor pistols and muskets are often described as “primitive” by comparison to people running around with swords and spears. Primitive to who? That’s high technology, man!

And thanks for the reference. I knew there were more to be found.
