Three cheers for the mongoose team, they held a good day
I must say I was very disappointed...
First off I wasn't sure what to expect, don't play anything much MGP but felt this would be the ideal opportunity for myself (and my Warhammer fan boy son) to discover the joys of ST, BF:Evo and VaS (and maybe ACTA).
That there was not an ST or BF:Evo party game was a BIG disappointment. Even if catering for existing customers the opportunity for them to try new armies or troop types existed... Not sure why MGP couldn't organise this at the very least.
There was a VaS game but a mix of (very) small 1/3000th ships and carboard counters did not look inspiring (and I wasn't sure whether this was a private game, a demo or whatever).
And although not an RPGer maybe some intro 30 minute sessions for young kids who don't know what the hell RPG's are.
The Death Race was good, but this was the ONLY visually appealing game and it isn't a product MGP actually sell...
Trade stand wise (glossing over the MGP staffer who tried to charge my son £25 for the plastic tanker - and yes it was the £15 one on the website, and no it wsn't bought...) the ST display was poor (things fell over for a pastime and it would have been nice to see painted/made up models - you want £30 for something? How big is it, what does it look like out the box?) MGP could have done a lot better here (the B5 display was excellent).
Overall if it hadn't been for the second hand GW stand the event would have been a complete bust (as it was I felt so guilty sticking my son in a car for a 100 mile round trip on a very hot day I bought him a load of second hand Eldar - and that was not the idea behind going!!)
I suppose if you were an MGP customer it was an opportunity to pick up some new stuff, talk to the staff etc, but for new customers it was dead and overall a big opportunity lost.
