Folks,
I just purchased Book 1 Mercenary, and I noticed in the Commando Career it mentioned the Melee (Martial Art) skill; however, I do not see anything that describes the “Martial Art” part. Do I treat this as Melee (unarmed) or is there another supplement that details ‘Martial Art’?

Thanks.
JJ

I think of it as an error on the part of the author.

Martial arts is just a term. Not a specific skill.

The core rules say under Melee skill specialties "Unarmed Combat: Whether it is trained martial arts or street fighting learned the hard way, this is the skill for using your body as a weapon."

In Supplement 4 CSC it has a couple places, such as Throwing Steel, where martial art is a descriptive term associated with weapons and not unarmed melee.

In Book 8 Diplomat on page 51, it describes an unarmed attack as "scratching or slapping, martial art attacks, strangulation"

In regards to the 2 times total (in all the books I've seen it's twice in Mercenary) it shows up as Melee (Martial Arts), I just use Melee (Unarmed).

For me, it's up to the player if they want to role play a karate chop, an upper cut, a roundhouse kick, or whatever.

I just fill in the Melee() skill with whatever specialty a player would like to specialize in for their character's career training involving melee.

Thanks everyone for such a quick response. I really enjoyed reading abou the detailed martial art list in the link provided; however, I will see what my players want, and if they want something so detailed.

Thanks again....

cheers!!!
