Marathon & Crusade era refits

Mongoose
I just looked over the refits for the crusade era, and found out, that (at least according to my list) the marathon, can't gain the"additional weapon fitted" refit, for it's mainbeam weapon. (While the "new" omega of the 2nd edition can).

Anybody knowing if it is really intended in this way?

(for me the main reason for prevering marathons over omegas has
been that it does almost the same range damage (far range), and
it's more agile. But with a omega, with much more beam potential
I'm currently really reconsidering my preference)

since it's less than 5 AD though 3 other weapon systems can gain from it,
saying that they do gain with Advanced focusing lenses for thier Medium Netron Cannon.

the Minbari have the same as does the rest of them apart from Vorlons, Shadows and the First Ones

Like I said,
I have no probs with the stats
The marathon has weaker broadsides, then the omega, has fewer fighters (and I think interceptors/AF is also less than on the omega),
and for the beams they have a equal base damage capacity (at least not taking into account additional hits / crits with dd / td) and the marathon is more agile and has missles as additional far reaching weapon.

So for a workhouse I would go for the omega (it's close range weapons are better then the marathons), and the marathons for sniping,... .

As I'm considering the beams for the marathon / omega their main weapon system, I'm liking that they are "relatively even" (again not taking into account any dd/td crits).

But in a campaign, the omega can outdo the marathon beamwise by almost 1/3 because of the refit, and that is what I meant. If this is really intended so, or not.

Like I said I like the marathon for it's agility and for it's long range capabilities, but with omegas (with the appropriate refit) having almost 1/3 more base damage capability at long range (beamwise I mean),
I must say, that I would more than likely stray for omegas in campaigns
(ok I must also say, that with my dice rolling luck, about 60-80% of the beams will never hit because I will roll snake eyes, but that is another problem^^)

At least as far as I understand how the marathon is planed to perform, it is a more agile (and andvanced) successor of the omega, with stronger long range capabilities (through the missles and the stronger beam variant vor crits), and that is also the reason why I asked if I'm on the wrong way here, and I make a wrong assumption, or if the refit doesn't do for the marathon what it should do?

(I hope I worte it understandable.......I'm a bit tired today^^.
And before someone asks, I'm not intending on ranting about the marathon / omega, or the like
I only want to know if I interpreted the (campaign) marathon in a wrong way, or not)

The Marathon is the advanced successor to the Hyperion, not the Omega. That this results in a ship of vaguely the same overall power level to the Omega is incidental.

The refits list is a standard one accross the whole fleet and is not intended to single out specific ships even though your example does favour the Omega.

I think certain upgrades will always be more effective on certain ships, two options are house rule it (say make it a 1AD bonus) or live with it.

I very much doubt it is specifically intended to penalise the Marathon.

Personally I find other aspects of the Crusade Age List far more frustrating than this.

Good luck in the campaign you are playing in.

Hi
tnx for the answers!

Like I feared I misinterpreted the ship in a way ^^.
I saw it as successor to the omega and not to the hyperion
(for that it is really a good successor!)

btw:

A happy new year ;)
