Marathon Cruiser, Over The Top?

The marathon will be spending his first turns using his beam to targte the already moved before him, low level initiative sinks due to the `lack of numbers` the crusade list has. Kind of liek the Minbari and their better but fewer fleet. This means the `juicy ships` of the enemy are relativly safe from the cruiser, as he has barely any secondary weapons, even compared against the Omega Destroyers of the era with their more massed front pulse batteries.

It`a more of a hunter type of cruiser imo, and `feels` and is very different from the standard amongts EA (especially the earlier two lists) that have a `try to get in the middle relatively unscathed and then dish it out` style.

And that is why the good lord invented the Chronos Frigate :D

dont know about anyone else but I think 6AD beam bla bla on the Primus makes it one of the best battle level choices in the entire game, and also requires minimum effort to get the most out of it when compared to boresighted ships. As has been said before it might be a one trick pony but its a great trick thats sure to work almost every time, and if you're worried or feeling cruel just take a tertius instead.....

If given the choice I would choose CAFed 6AD beam DD SAP instead of a boresighted weapon any day.

It looks like a tough choice between the Omega and Marathon for EA players and doesnt feel overpowered at all to me.

I agree completely Froh but I'd just offer you a friendly warning on starting that particular argument up again as last time it started off it went on rather alot :P

You watch me playing a game on Vassal sometime. See how often that uber-death beam delivers more than 2-4 damage...

Last time I saw it in action was at my FLGS last week.

It killed an Omega with its first shot, and a Nova with its second.

how many ships have I lost to a primus, shall i count them, actually, no, I can't be bothered, but it's a lot. The only time I have killed one is bacause I managed to board it, but it still cripled my G'Quan, yup, thats it, the battleship with the most dmg, any other battleship would probably be dead. I wish the Narn had a primus :-(

Congratulations on your good luck at dice. I've only ever had that kind of shot from a Primus twice. The rest of the time it's a string of 2s and 1s with maybe one or two hits, no secondary hits and no critical damage.

Thus we see the failings of a one-trick pony ship. It's nice when the trick works but when it doesn't you're wondering why you blew a battle point on this ship. At least a ship like the Centurion has some secondary guns to try to turn your luck around with.

to rant or not to rant, that is the question.

Davied, your unhealthy obsession with the primus being poor is going to put you in an early grave, go get some new dice, or let someone roll for you!, the effects of a primus are devastating, you must be the unluckiest man alive with it.

must concurr, Ive certainly beaten Primuses before and even with lower level ships but in every case this has been by getting said ships in behind the primus and every time the primus has EVER got a shot off on one of my ships, even big nasty ones like Warlocks and Omegas, very bad things have happened to me :P

I am very unlucky with dice. That doesn't change my point, however, and you are persistently ignoring it in favour of slurs and flames.

Cant CAF you boresight beam?

Thats why God gave EA the Delphi

Yes for a mere 1 raid point you two can have re-rolls on your Boresight beam, you even get a stealth 5+ ship and since armageddon the Delphi actually has some teeth!!! granted they aint very pointy but at least it has some...

Thats why you always take 2 or 3, that way worst case you SHOULD get one sucess, best case you get 3, everybody wins :D :D :D

Yes i play BIG engagements, 4 point war being average....

your point quite frankly is a load of whiney bollocks, and if you take that post as slurs and flames, then so be it. this one however certainly is, stop being a whingy fecker about the primus, it has a better beam than many warships, on a solid hull, and you really won't let it go. it is 6 dice of forward arc, the fact that you seem to find it crap is clearly in line with your bad dice rolling which you admit, and some kind of complex that says because you are bad with it, it therfore is a bad ship that needs improving. some people have to make do with 3ad of boresight beam, yet do i post on here consistantly about how bad the G'Quan is? do the EA people post constantly about how bad the Omega is? Thing is, you refuse point blank to accept what some 90% of the posters tell you about the primus, so we are all in the wrong and you are right, you incesantly whine and bitch, tell everyone who disagrees with you they are wrong and then get all sulky when you do get flamed. You have in the past made some quite excelent posts with reasoned and thought out arguments, and been a long standing member of this forum, but you aren't doing yourself any favours by continuing to gripe about a bloody powerful ship.

I was gonna say 2-3 raid level slots? dosent leave roo for too much else, but at big war points you can get away with it

Yeah no joke, that's one of my favorite EA choices. I have two of them floating around in my campaign, and both have a CQ6.

I know, i played 2 against the local Narn player, god he hated stealth lmao. On a serious note, Delphis are great raid choices, id take 2 delphi;s over 4 hyperion AC's anyday, and if all else fail, when they explode you get a healthy 9 AD to anything in the locality.

I was going to flame you back, but you're not worth the key-presses. Feel free to die in a suitably painful fashion any time now.

now who is being mature.

I'm happy to let his lie, personally, I have made a point, explained it and backed it up, and let it get to me a bit more than I should. I'm happy to apologise, and hope things can get back to normal. Primus aside, I have actually (believe it or not) valued some of your opinions and arguments, although I really don't intend dying any time soon, unless you mean in a galactic sense, in which case we are all off to meet our maker.
