Loren Wiseman possibly at COnpulsion 09

Mongoose
Hi GUys,

the big news is that Loren Wiseman has been officially invited to attend
Conpulsion 09 in Edinburgh, the Grand Edinburgh Adventuring Society' s annual get together, as a Special Guest, they are able to hopefully put some money towards getting him over here (which is extremely generous) but it is going to cost and clearly, if Loren is going to be coming, we need to raise money to cover his flights and accomodation etc.

I am hoping to be able to open some kind of PAYPAL account that people could donate to and, hopefullly I could post a link here so that people could donate if they wish, (I will hopefully get one on the TML too)

but, as I say I (or BITS if they want to :D have to get that sorted yet
The big thing is making sure that Loren gets to see Hadrian's Wall, the Roman works in the Museum of Scotland are easy, it's almost next door to the Con but the trip to Northumberland need careful planning I reckon (unless you guys want me to hire a car and drive Loren, but most folks have balked at that proposition :D

Anyhow, hope you guys could come up to the show and maybe help me out here by pointing me in the right direction

re donations
I think the the Fundable system http://www.fundable.com/

would be a good and safe way to go
but, as I say, I hope Mongoose would be willing to allow me to post a link up on here if at all possible

Yeah, I don't have that kind of money either
but I figure if all the fans can get together then it can be done
it would be really good I think 8)

Saying that, I just realised that you are over in the USA
that's a considerably longer trip to make to get to the show
me, I just get out of bed and on a bus (it's in my hometown)
hopefully you guys in the States could maybe invite Loren to one of your
local shows, that wouldbe pretty neat I reckon 8)

Ok, here's the link to the fundraising donation page

https://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-09-21.4474707679/groupaction_view

any help much appreciated

ok, I don't think this "fundables" thing is going to work,
it only gives you 25 days to reach your target or no contributions are made and it makes me feel very uncomfortable as it is jammed in there with alot of
charitable causes, and we are not a charitable cause, this is a great idea but that is soooooo not the way forward i'm going to pull it and think again

maybe I can just set up a PAYPAL account or somesuch, is there any way to get a third party involved to ensure everybody is happy its legit?

Greg Stolze uses Fundable to pay for his "ransom" REIGN products and it works fine for him. It's just a means to generate funds, not anything specifically to do with charitable causes, so you shouldn't feel "guilty" about it being there.

Thanks for that but I really still dont feel happy about using
it

I am going to get a PAYPAL account set up that will stay open as long
as need be to collect donations, hopefully by a third party that
Loren has named as people will know him far more than me and thus
it will be far more open and trustable

I will hopefully get this all sorted out in the next couple of days
someone did donate to the fundable account so I hope they will transfer it over to teh PAYPAL one 8)

"far more open and trustable"
that word should really have been "transparent" :)

OK, People are very kind,
folks have been donating to the "Fundables" account
that I planned to cancel however, it does not look as though I can
actually cancel it but that it will run it's course

I do not believe it will raise the necessary sum
and thus no monies will be taken from the generous individuals
who gifted them

Could I ask therefore that all involved instead
transfer their donation to the PAYPAL account established to
fund Loren's visit to Conpulsion 09.

This has not yet been set up but it should be very shortly.

I have been given the name of a third party by Loren Wiseman
who is hopefully going to be willing to become involved in the setting
up of this account (but it is not certain yet) so hopefully this
will become a reality as the person is very much a known name to
Traveller fandom and has impeccable credentials.

Thank you all for your ongoing support here

Ok,
I lowered the fundable total to $200 to attempt to salvage something from this debacle, if anyone still wants to doante great
I will pass it on to the PAYPAL account if the total is raised

Which would be lovely, but even in that case I wouldn't have the money (unless it were in my state's capital city).

Sorry I couldn't contribute.

I havent set up the new PAYPAL accoutn to accept contributions yet
just waiting to sort out a couple of things first but I am hoping to get it done soonest

OK,
final decision here the best route to go does seem to be
a case of setting up a "fundables" account every month with a
target or $200 or so, hopefully each month I will reach that target and be
able to put aside teh money raised towards Loren's trip
(ideally this money will go to a third party to hold in trust - any volunteers?)

so c'mon guys, let's get Loren over to Edinburgh and keep the current buzz for Traveller
going

Alan

Ok, the fundables account didnt work
could I ask then that if anyone is kind enough to want to donate to bringing Loren over for Conpulsion that they
either pass any donations over to myself directly, I can be found at SESWC on a Thursday night or donate directly to Loren (ClEARLY marking up
CONPULSION 09) via his webpage at

http://www.cgi101.com/~lkw/index.html

If you go into the "New" section you will find a "donate" button

Thankyou once again everyone, let's keep on Travellin'

Alan Hume

Why would you want to give money to a professional that almost certainly has royalities and other bonuses from continuing use of his work?

He should be coming off his own back, if he wants to maintain interest in traveller ...
