Lone Wolf - Back with a Vengeance!

Mongoose thank you so much for relighting my childhood hero. I made the mistake of selling the game books at a point in life food was more important then readin material and I will be buying every lone wolf product you guys produce I will also tell my friends about it those I know dont know about this sight and would love the books again.

I read an interview with Mr Dever once and I hope the new books centered on a new character is banedon but we will see.

Mongoose this news has meant the world to me and I thank you.

Late to the party Yay!

I've been trying to get all the LW books I'm missing (but not at EBay prices!), so this is wonderful news. The new artist makes me a bit worried given the standard of art in the LW RPG book (the main reason I didnt buy it - that and D20), but the idea of extended storylines... wow!

Lone Wolf and the Sorcery series are still two of my fave "RP" experiences - gamebooks they may be, but they were very evocative to young Dobey. I'll be buying these in a snap, and the idea of an RPG designed to reflect the rules of the book series is also a real tempter... just sort out the art for this one!

LW needs a certain sort of art - Gary Chalk isn't what I'd call my fave artist, but there was something about his style that just worked perfectly on LW.

I agree there I always prefered how gary Chalk captured lone wolf and would love seeing those styles of pictures again. But hey I dont care I will buy the books if the front covers have rubbish drawn on them.

:D  Trust me, I'm going to do it. Special Thanks have to go to "The Wolf" (you know who you are!) the first one who believed in me and my skill to write a decent enough story to get it published. And he wasn't even afraid to speak of his trust in public! Thank you very much...

First of all, THANK YOU Mongoose for reviving the Gamebooks. As you have no doubt seen, a huge part of the interest for LW Gamers would be the original Gamebooks. My thoughts:

Having "Director's Cut" gamebooks by Dever is an interesting idea. I think that this is a worthy way of reviving the Gamebooks. Do I feel I am missing out by not seeing the Originals? Well, not really - since these new Versions are penned by Dever's own hand. An idea: at some point it could be fun to see a "Making Of" book where changes from the Original series are explained, what decisions Joe made when working on the New Versions of the Gamebooks, etc. Whether this historical account would interest more than a few, who is to say? But it would be of interest to me! ;)

LWRPG: The D20 RPG has been a lot of fun, and although it will be sad to see it go, I have no real problem with the idea of scrapping it and moving on. It may be selfish of me to say it, but I have my LWRPG Gamebook, my MoM, and the Darklands book. I must admit, I would have liked to see a book about Epic Heroes (ie LW Grand Master status, etc) but it is OK and I give Mongoose ALL the credit for everything they have done with the Series which I found to be of good quality (some minor problems, but nothing that detracts from my enjoyment) - especially I liked the large amount of Story Sourcematerial about the World and History of Magnamund which makes these books a treasure trove whether I am actually playing the game as a d20 or whether I am just reading these books for fun and personal enjoyment.

Will I play the new version of the RPG? That's hard to say. If it is super-simplified, I am not sure I will. Would I buy the gamebooks? Every single one. If the new RPG has decent Source Material (and especially if Dever is involved) I may buy these anyway even if I don't intend to play the game that way. That's just because I love reading everything there is about Magnamund.

THANK YOU MONGOOSE! I look forward to finding and buying the new Flight from the Dark! Until then, take your time with the flagship book of what promises to be a very successful new undertaking. With Gamebooks seeing so little life these days, I feel that it is high time for Lone Wolf to make his return - I am sure that the books will fill a vacuum in the market and provide the wonder and excitement that it did for all of us to a new generation of readers as well as old fans alike.

Wow, great news! :D

Especially about the rpg; it was already apparent that mongoose, like many other companies had stepped down or begun stepping down from d20 due to impending rumops of dnd 4.0 coming out late next year.

First, I have to say I the d20 version was and IS fantastic!, not only that but the rulebook is an instant classic, and will always remain so as one of the most complete rpg's published. I only wished that, once the supplements are taken into account, the much vaunted might of magnamund had seen light of day.

But that aside, I am very glad mongoose is going with a homebrew system designed ground up to mesh with the gamebooks. d20 did that well, but minor issues like armor making people harder to hit, hp bloat (though not near as bad as dnd due to high damage output many classes have); the lack of danger traps posed, lack of danger iconic monsters like helghasts posed at higher levels, etc etc really needed to be resovled.

Hopefully now they can be, in addition to providing a system that screams sword and sorcery rather that high fantasy. Plus, this time they can add in the vakeros battlemage and shianti sorceror into the rulebook, so people can finally stop moaning they are overpowered. ;)

Also, I hope mongoose can rehire August Hahn to work on this, at least in some capacity, since he really did a great job with d20.

Anyhow, the future seems great for Mongoose, Lone Wolf, Grey Star and Banedon, and looks like 2007-2008 is going to be a heck of a time to be a Lone Wolf fan. :D

Not to derail (too much), but it seems there's very few companies left that push D20 material as their sole thing. Green Ronin broke out big with Warhammer, Mongoose with Runequest and now this. No business sense in resting your fortunes solely on another company's product.

Splendid news for the new century!! I'm so glad to see my childhood classics back again and possibly complete! Now I will have something else to collect in 2007 besides the new fighting fantasy books. :P

anyone who orders the complete set from us (over whatever time period) will also be sent their own replica of the Sommerswerd, free of charge. We will have pictures of this magnificent blade next year, before the gamebooks become available. Drool at your leisure!
Which scale? Please tell me it is a 1:1 battle-ready version (or even better, a sharpened one) :)

that is going to take some explaining at the sorting office  and will scare the dog witless when it come through the letter box :D

Excellent news!

Lone Wolf was my entry into fantasy in general, I started reading them when I was 9 because they looked cool in the school library (having an hour to kill while everyone else was in religious studies was great!).

I also echo the sentiments regarding the Sommerswerd - is it lifesize? Is it made from a yellow alloy to look like the actual sword?

Can I get one shipped into Australia!?

But most important - Can I smite DARKLORDS with it?!!
