Lone Wolf - Back with a Vengeance!

Hi guys,

In what has rapidly turned into our worst kept secret, I can now reveal (some) of what is going on with Lone Wolf. . .

You may have already heard about the new Lone Wolf computer game coming out in early 2008 (we are told). We have seen some of the concepts going around for this project and, well, they are awesome!

For our part, we are going to be kicking into high gear with Lone Wolf. Have a look at the following projects. . .

Novels
Next year will see the release of two new trilogies set in Magnamund, and more will be following. You will be able to find these in most good bookstores, starting Summer 2007.

Gamebooks
Well, we have something special planned for Lone Wolf fans here! To begin with, we will be re-releasing all the original gamebooks - but with a difference. The first volume is currently being re-written by Mr Dever, expanding the story. Think of it as a director's cut. Subsequent volumes will feature all new art and gaming material, including a new mini-series of adventures running alongside the greater Lone Wold story.

That is not all - as you may have already heard, Mr Dever is also working on books 29-32, completing the saga that was started many, many years ago (Lone Wolf was actually my introduction to RPGs!). You can expect to see these late 2007/early 2008.

That is not all either, however. . .

While you will be able to pick these new Lone Wolf books up from your local book store, we will also have them available from our web site, and there will be a special treat in store for dedicated fans. Whether you take a subscription out to be sent the gamebooks as soon as they are released, or simply collect them one by one at your pleasure, anyone who orders the complete set from us (over whatever time period) will also be sent their own replica of the Sommerswerd, free of charge. We will have pictures of this magnificent blade next year, before the gamebooks become available. Drool at your leisure!

We will also be producing a new set of gamebooks, centred around another famous character in Magnamund.

Roleplaying Game
We spent a lot of time thinking and debating about the Lone Wolf RPG. We have decided to release a new Lone Wolf RPG alongside the gamebooks, with mechanics based on (though expanded) from the system found in the gamebooks themselves. Our intention here is to a) give Lone Wolf RPG fans a quick and easy to learn system allowing them to tour Magnamund, but mostly for b) a fond hope that we can bring new players into the hobby using the same road that we took all those years ago.

Life is going to get exciting in Magnamund!

Oh wow! Where do I sign up? :)

That's interesting news indeed, to say the least. The re-issueing of the game books makes me very happy, as the series was never fully released here in germany to my knowledge and I have been introduced by the game books to roleplaying games as were you, Matt  So it's a big announcement for me.

The sommerswerd just is a quite cool add-on, which I hope to be able to get me  :D

What does this mean exactly? That we can kiss the old d20 lite RPG goodbye or will there be some more releases, like the rumored Sommerlund Guide? I mean, haven't you guys just reprinted the core rules? Anyhow, any RPG that keeps LoneWolf alive is a great idea and I will keep an eye on it for sure.

Thanks for the news, Matt, or should I speak instead of news the worst kept secret?! :P

I actualy edited stuff out of my post where I was asking about things Joe announced that The Mong haven't stated publicly yet, and decided that it would be better to let them announce things in their own time, than to ask about stuff and start others worrying :/.

I've got a feeling that the Lone Wolf d20 stuff will remain d20 without too many changes, but I could be wrong (the announcement seemed written for people not familiar with the slimmed down d20 stuff already).

Will the 4 unwritten gamebooks be published in other languages, like Italian and French?

...or german?

As Lone Wolf has been out of print in Germany since the end of the 1980s I'd say it would be cool to see the revised versions being republished here, and maybe there would even be a market for them again...

But I consider getting the english originals, even if there are german version to be released, just for the Sommerswerd it's worth reading more english books :D

We do have some options for foreign language editions (something we are looking into more and more with our games - BF Evo and SST Evo will be multilingual from the outset), though they will follow on after the English books.

That's great news!
I have heard rumours that ACTA will be translated into german in the near future.

I have a lot of friends I don't get into gaming due to their lazyness of using a game that comes in a foreign laguage, even englsih, that they learnt in school for years...

It would be great for Mongoose to expand their markets, but if you plan to release foreign language stuff under your own banner, not sublicensing stuff, it's my oppinion that you must improve the retailing of your products.

It's quite hard to get most of the RPG stuff over here (my FLGS doesn't even support the strong Babylon 5 RPG line, not even mentioning ACTAs
:( ) and big national online shops (like Amazon.de) have very few titles from Mongoose Publishing available. For example: The Babylon 5 Station Guide is very hard to come by here...

If you could look into this and better your products availability that would in my eyes directly add to your sale numbers.

I like the sound of it, and will most likely pick up the new version and the gamebooks... I used to read them as a kid as well... and the Fighting Fantasy ones...

So the sword you get with the subscription, is it life size, letter opener size?? either way I'm interested, though hopefully its classified as an ornament to get into Australia...

Yes, size is one concern. Construction material is important, too. Metal will make it a lot more costly to ship...unless MGP has an international distributor set up in the States and there in Australia.

Maybe I'm out of it, but I just noticed that there was a second printing of the d20 LW RPG. What has been changed in this version, and does it have anything to do with the announcement here?

Besides that, I really look forward to this LW event of events!

Are there any hope of a Lone Wolf Runequest book ?

Not only would it seriously rock, and help bring Lone Wolf to more people, but WolfQuest is a badass title :)

Will you still support Lone Wolf D20 or will this new simplifed rules system be the only one supported in the future?

I'd say the answer to your question is very high in demand by any Lone Wolf RPG fan in this forum right about now...

I'm afraid that the 'new' RPG will mark the end for the d20 version that we have right now, but that's just my 'feeling' as I have no inside knowledge whatsoever...
