Life event entry 11:
Crime: You commit or are the victim (or are accused) of a crime. Lose one Benefit roll or take the Prisoner career in your next term.
I had this come up last night. The character graduated with honors from Naval school, nailed every promotion roll and was a rising star officer. Bam! This thing comes. Player decides prisoner is more interesting.
This happened after a successful survival roll, but it is unclear what happens. Is this "go directly to jail, do not pass go and collect $200?" type of thing, or does the character get an advancement roll, benefits, etc.
We decided that it came from success, not mishap, so yes, the character gets to finish up the rolls associated with a successful career, but treat the advancement roll as if the result were under the # of terms served and thus the career had no more use of the character.
In our case, the player aced the roll, character was promoted to captain and all associated benefits, and then next term goes to prison.
Kinda weird but that's what makes interesting characters.
I guess the point is, more clarification is needed on this event and whether it alters the normal flow of character generation. Even if it does not, it should explicitly say that.
