Kickstarter is about pledging, in what you might liken to a charity contribution. It's not like a regular shop so you don't get a refund if the project later falls flat. This is rather important to consider when funding a project by someone(s) you aren't sure about.
Amazon will generally hold the money for a few days, I believe on our last one they had it for about 3 days before we could withdraw to our bank (adding another day or so).
Kickstarter takes its fee off the top, and then Amazon takes it per transaction, which all together adds up to about 9% of the total.

More news on the Judge Dredd Kickstarter - we passed two more goals, which means we have lots more models in the works and available for you to pledge upon - the Zombie Horde, Citi-Def Squad, Electro-Cordons... and the Dark Judges. Many thanks for your kind support on this project, we are starting to see some really exciting models now!
The Zombie Horde, Citi-Def Squad and Dark Judges will all be box sets that can be selected as one or more of your choices at Rookie, Street Judge and Wally Squad levels, and they will be added, along with the Electro-Cordons, at Council of Judges and Chief Judge levels.
Next up for a stretch goal... a persopnal favourite of mine, the Sov Invasion Force, something we have talked about doing ever since we started the Judge Dredd miniatures game. If we pass $16,000, we will add the Sov Invasion Force, consisting of six Sov Judges and Officers (with a variety of weaponry) and a Sentenoid, a large robot designed to enter an enemy city and create mayhem before the main Sov army arrives. Perfect for tackling the decadent Mega-City One judges!
Later this week, we will be posting the first version of the Block War supplement up for free download, and we will be unveiling the Pat Wagon! We have also started contracting sculptors for these new models and hopefully we will be able to showcase some of their work before the end of the Kickstarter.

Currently you would get the Zombies and Dark Judges extra. If the total exceeds $16000 (ie the stretch goal) you would also get the Sovs. The stretch goals encourage people to spend more, cos not only do they get more, but the stuff they have already bought gets better.
Other Kickstarters I've seen have little things to spend money on so that the stretch goal gets hit. If there were Dredd dice for example people who have already bought stuff might buy a dice or ten to bump up the stretch goal. On top of that, if the the lower level pledges benefited from extra stuff, then people are more inclined to add in a little bit so the total gets closer to the stretch.
Mega-City One is on the alert right now; as we get ever closer to the next stretch goal, the Sov Invasion force prepares its assault on the decadent capitalist judges...
Before that happens though, we wanted to update you on a few things that have happened/are going on.
1. We have added the Lawmaster to the Chief Judge level, giving you more for your pledge.
2. There is an entirely new pledge level - the Citi-Def Soldier. This one will give you the rulebook in a hardcopy, hardcover, full colour tome, delivered free to your doorstep, courtesy of the guys at Wargame Vault. If you have already pledged and fancy this rulebook, remember you can simply increase your current pledge to cover other items. We will be in touch with you after the Kickstarter ends to find out what exactly you were after.
3. Our graphics guy, Will, is just working on the artwork at the moment, but we will be adding a new stretch goal this afternoon - upon touching $18,000, we will immediatly commission new miniatures for Judge Anderson, Judge DeMarco, DeMarco PI, and Travis Perkins. A healthy batch of personalities, if there ever was one!
4. All going well, we should be unveiling Sandrine's new Pat Wagon tomorrow!

A certain lack of goodwill some players exhibit towards Mongoose aside, maybe the KS page might benefit from some clarification -- for those who haven't actually followed up on what's been done with the property. I'm pretty clear on what is coming currently at which pledge level personally, but I'm perhaps in the better informed end of the spectrum in regards to the JD minis.

There were still quite a few positive posts on there, and some people who blatantly had fact wrong (like the fut who said dredd was £9+p&p on the mongoose store) overall i don't think its too bad.

I just read the forum. Some of them are complaining about the quality of the casts. I have bought most of the boxed sets and none of the models have problems. Foundry do make high quality casts, but they're expensive and their range is very small. Mongoose is putting them out there!
There are always gonna be armchair critics. Personally, I'm very excitied about this KS.

As Moji said though. There will always be critics who just spew stuff out due to blind loyalty to another brand or just plain bieng drokk-headed creep.

I have a large amount of the JD minis (also played GoMC1 back in the day) but I've never gotten involved with a kickstarter so I'm lost.
My biggest confusion is: If a 'stretch goal' are reached and *then* someone signs up on the kickstarter after that new item is added... does the person get the same stuff as someone who pledged that particular level on day one, or do they only get what comes from stretch goals that are reached after they sign up.
Example (to be clear)
Start
Day 1 - $200 gets "X"
Day 27 - 'Joe Shmoe' sighs up at $200 level
Day 34 - Stretch Goal reached, $200 gets the "super-dooper biker" added
Day 40 - 'Sammy Wiilson' signs up at the $200 level.
Does Sammy get that "Super-Dooper Biker" or just the original $200 items and any stretch goals later reached.
