Jumpbreaker Missile

A hit by a Jumpbreaker Missile gives a -8 penalty to the jump check for the ship hit.

So a single dinky little missile can do that to a 500,000Dton floating beach ball of death?

Yes I know it has a lot of laser turrets for point defence but one single little warhead does that to any ship???

This perhaps needs some modification since it's a ship killer as it stands, you either can't jump or miss jump or die regardless of how big you are.

Perhaps some factor related to size of ship being affected with more hits required for bigger hulls.

I can see a pirate stopping a free trader from jumping with one but having a fighter squadron play 'mess with the Tigress jump field' and stop that huge great ship being able to jump seems a bit odd.

I actually dont mind it as is at all.

Unlike a truly broken mechanic, you have an easy-way out - simply dont jump.

If you're in a situation where it is "jump or die" - then that is a pretty big strategic blunder that happened way before the point in time where someone had fired a jump missile at you.

Besides, a 500,000 dton killer has a Kajibillion (real term ;P ) point defense options, so I dont think a dinky jump-breaker has a chance. I doubt even a few hundred jump-breakers have a chance.

It's not like a bay weapon firing on a free trader, where a single hit could end you. This is a missile, that has to survive point defense, and if of zero use unless the target is trying to escape... zero value in the actual line of battle engagement.

Who should be allowed to buy such missiles?

Exactly - these would be highly controlled missiles. After all, this isn't like a self-defense item for free traders or Mercs. This is a very predatory item that should be of use by military and police forces only.
