I've Got My Copy!

Yes, it has such a section. Really isn't much you need do in the way of conversion, though: things renamed, mostly. They suggest a multiclassed psion/paladin/ranger for the Kai Lord.

So,
Someof you recall last week's debacle, wherein my FLGS manager told me his distributor was "not allowed" to ship the LW RPG until that week, thus placing its USA SE regional debut ... tomorrow.

Well, here's to hoping. I really don't know what to do if our copies don't come in... besides boycotting the store. I mean, I really have a lot of patience, but the stress is gettin' me, ya know? Work, bills, and not-enough-RPing tend to do that to a guy. I mean, I shirked paying the entirety of last month's phone bill to ensure I'd have the cash for the LW book! I shirked a bill! Me, a psuedo-responsible adult... <ahem>

Oh well, here's to hoping.

See guys?!? The stress is getting so bad, I'm getting to where I repeat MYSELF!

:D

the sommerswerd is described in the book?

Is powerful?

you pardon that it makes so many questions but is that still I do not have my copy:)

Thanks:)

For anyone paying any level of attention for the Adgramaine's Quest of the Lone Wolf, I thought I'd issue an update...

So, apparently due to this holiday past, all shipments that were due in today are set to arrive TOMORROW, once again pushing the date of arrival for the book ever so tauntingly into the future....

"Once more into the breech, dear friends" and all that whatnot.... Here's hoping I actually have something to read at work tomorrow.

Well, I got my copy yesterday (finally!), and I must say that I'm impressed. I haven't read the book completely, yet (I have a day job that keeps me away from all the important stuff), so my question is likely answerable by the rules somewhere: What are the Willpower points used for with Kai Lords? None of the disciplines use Willpower, yet it says that Kai Lords recieve Willpower points and cannot use their disciplines if this total ever falls to 0. Is there another treasure in the book that I have yet to read?

Anyway, the book looks SUPER, and I'm looking forward to finally being able to run my gaming group in my favorite world. O! The tingling anticipation!

Can't wait for all the future expansions!

Willpower primarily protects a Kai lord in Psychic combat, so when a Helghast tries turning his mind to jelly damage comes off his willpower score before he starts taking any endurance damage. :)
He also needs a willpower score of at least 1 to perform any actions (except focus) in psychic combat.

Finally! I got my copy though the post this morning. Spent the last 3 hours just sitting here reading it. Absoultely top notch. A great job by all involved.

It's MINE! I'ves got the precious!

uh, oh....

Sorry bout that, it just seemed I might never get my own copy!! Now that I have skimmed through most of it, I must say that I am very impressed by just about everything! August, you captured everything that is the heart of these books, and I'd like to personally thank you for all the time and effort placed into it.

"Golum! Golum!"

Uh, yeah... So anyway... some of the art (note the word some) seemed a bit "off" IMO, and didn't fit well into the books, but hey I didn't buy it for the art.
I was surprised however to find that within the Skills section, some of the writing echoed itself. Something would be said, and three sentenses later, it would be said again... this happened like twice. But hey, not like I threw the book away when I caught what was, in essence an editorial mistake.

Then I got to the equipment! And I forgot about the piddley complaints I had so far! The Lorestones were an amazing read for me (I had forgotten they were in the book), the Moonstone blurb was a great addition as well (I was afraid it might not get mentioned with the other artifacts), and the Sommerswerd... geeze, man. I got one question about that, just one:
The books lists the damage as "d8+10... doubled after each successful hit (2d8+20){to a darkspawn or undead}. Does this mean damage is increased after every concecutive hit, meaning the first does 2d8+10, the third does 3d8+30, etc, or am I taking this in the wrong context. Just asking for a clairifification as some players (and GMs) might take advatage of the wording here....

Again, thanks for a great book! Now I only wish Darklands would be out before we start our campaign

Thanks for the kind words, adgramaine. Not sure what you mean about the echoed writing, but I'll watch for that. It's actually a peeve of mine, so I'm really sorry if any crept in there.

And no, the somwerswerd does not consecutively double with each hit. That's what it doesn't say 'each consecutive hit'. <chuckle> It's plenty powerful enough; don't try to boost it any farther... :D

I wasn't planning on making changes to the Sommerswerd, August! I like over-the-top gaming as much as the next guy, but that wouldn't be over the top, that'd be "broken"!

As for the echoing, on page 78, the first four paragraphs under Skills and Skill Checks repeat themselves: the first discusses ranks vs Skill Points placement, and the second goes over the max ranks. The thrid paragraph again covers Ranks vs Skill Poins, and the fourth again mentions Max Skill Ranks. The wording changes up in both instances, but fact remains, the book repeats itself... but hey, it's kinda like the pot calling the kettle black coming from the likes of me (:P), and I'm not complaining about it - just thought I'd let you guys know in case you fix mistakes like that in a second printing run. So don't apologize! We're only human, and the book as a whole is what is important, not the itty-bitty mistakes that might crop up within! :)

I didn't notice it in the Skills, but I did catch it in the description of the Gourgaz. Again, like adgramaine said, it's not major by any stretch of the imagination.

I hadn't read too much into the Bestiary, just enough to skim and see how bad @$$ the Helghasts were...
Funny, I always thought they'd be a bit more than they were presented, but hey - I'll just have to play them VERY smartly

I guess the echoed writing is just in sections that Mongoose wanted to make sure we payed attention to :P

(that last bit was a joke of the bad variety...)

Love the gazeteer section.

No Deathgaunts?!? Those were the best, the creepiest...much scarier than the Helghasts IMO.

Oh, one more thing...

MUST...HAVE...MORE...CHARACTER...CLASSES!

Like the Knights of the White Mountain, Sommlending border Rangers (NOT comparable to traditional D&D rangers), those ultra-cool warriors from Dessi (Vakeros?), League of the Sword (always pictured them as kind of like the knights of the round table), Those priests that worshipped the Shianti (Redeemers?), Herbwardens of Bautar, Samu's people from Lissan (don't remember what they were called)...can't remember anymore right now.

I got my copy yesterday. I havent had a chance to sit down and read it yet. I've been doing yardwork for neighbors to make some money, and I'm not quite done yet. I have glanced over it though. I must say that I am quite impressed with the material.

It seems to me that some of the art doesn't match up to the text though. Anyway, so far so good, geese. Keep up the good work.

agrammaine, I too thought the heleghasts seemed weaker than in the books. But remember, LW went up against one by himself mostly, (he had paido with him once, but paido ended up getting poisioned). Send up a heleghast against a singular pc and you will see they are quite tough.

I personally will buff them up some more later on, by adding classes in warrior, and maybe a level in adept, once right handed magik is revealed.

(In the brotherhood section though, they show a fourth level banedon going up against a group of giaks and 2 heleghasts  . Still, a brotherhood wizard with counterspells would stand a better chance at lower levels than a kai imo)

Xex, of course, you are right... There are just some classic things about LW/GS that seem embedded within my scarred psyche. Helghasts and quoku were always my favorites to fight, but they ALWAYS handed me my @$$ ('till I got my hands on a little thing called the Sommerswerd)

Hey, did anyone else notice that Vordaks were rated highyer than Helghasts? They are stronger? I remember onyl two encounters with Vordaks (Book 1 and 5) and both were pretty easy.... Just wondering on this point out loud....

Hmm... maybe I should have posted this under "monster" thread....
