I think I'm going to go with the spy option. Ideally I want the players to have more control over their destinies than the standard Borderlands "you're a mercenary you do as you're told" approach, so I'm thinking of having them come to the attention of the duke through a couple of earlier scenarios (such as the Toadface one mentioned earlier), and then he'll offer them some kind of senior role, just below Daine. They'll be responsible for dealing with any threats within the domain, so when Jezra goes missing it's their fault! :twisted: If they refuse, (and I think they'll be interested), then I'll put some external pressue on them to be spies, either for Garrath or Fleeter Nemm.
