Is there a pdf file of the Core Rulebook available?

Mongoose
I just bought the Hardcover Traveller Core Rulebook and am wondering if there is some way to register it and perhaps get access to an official pdf copy (with the errata and replacement deckplans already in place).

Any chance of seeing that happen?

normally you can get it at Drive Thru RPG, but the site is down.

Don't you have to pay for that though. It would be good to be able to have both the hard copy as well as a electronic one for the same price.

Mongoose, AFAIK, doesn't do that.

Paizo is the only one that I know of that does that, but only for their subscribers.

Any chance for a discount for those of us who've already bought the print version? I'd love to have a searchable PDF for easy referencing...

That would be nice. Don't count on it though. There is no easy means to verify the purchase/ownership (maybe it is a gift) between different vendors so I don't see this happening unless you acquire the products from the same location.

Mongoose could release product activation codes with their releases. Sending them out to the distributors who in turn could give them to the end users.

We end users could then register our legally bought products with Mongoose (which gives them a marketing list) and they could give out links to special downloads, offers, etc. concerning that product or product line. The activation codes could be vendor or region specific reducing widespread fraud or abuse of the system.

a pdf format of the book could be acquired in this fashion, if they did this...

Any system put in place would
A) Still have some fraud or abuse - possibly reducing mongoose revenue and increasing prices
B) There is a cost to implementing any system which would increase prices
C) I don't want to speak for Mongoose, but I know that I wouldn't want the extra duties of putting in a registration system, maintaining it, responding to problems with it and so on.
D) Something like this would take time to be put into place
E) What do you do about all the people who already have the product

Back to your original post.

Not without paying for it.

Again I seriously doubt it.

Maybe Mongoose could consider doing something on a future product if its done as a package deal when you acquire both at the same time from the same source...

In all honesty, I can only see this happening if you bought it direct from Mongoose. Wizards tried activation codes with 4E and they weren't successful. I'm not holding my breath that anyone else will be successful if Wizards couldn't.

Only other way I could see this is if Mongoose did a promotional thing where a FLGS gave away mini CDs with a PDF of the book if you bought a first printing or something.

I really can't see that happening as it's just more expense for Mongoose to produce the CD and market them. Using a site like DrivethruRPG let's them simply upload it and collect the income from the sales (so I assume) which is a LOT easier and cheaper for them.

Still, who knows!

Hey Craig. Good name, good album. I just had to say it. Where in Oz are you?

 It is.

I'm in Tamworth, though I only moved here 7 years ago for work commitments. For those that don't know it, Tamworth is the country/western music capital of Australia....
