Ion Cannons

Morakas

Mongoose
I looked thru the books trying to find ion cannons but had no success. Anybody have any idea what ion cannon stats are? I'm wondering what my Centauri fleet might look like in 2nd edition.

We will have to wait and see, unless some kind play-tester lets us have a look.... As far as I am aware they have just about finished doing the Centari so we might be lucky.

Just taking a blind stab in the dark (which is something I may be receiving if I'm wrong :P ) but they might be about the same as the Matter Cannons atm, 12-15" range depending on ship, AP DD.

I can't see them just cloning the stats for a Matter Cannon. It would need to be something else, otherwise all the Centauri ships would just pack Matter Cannon for logistical purposes.

Plenty of AD and Twin-Link, Double Damage could be a good start (More like re-badging the Heavy Array)

I'm fairly sure Matt said what ion cannons will be like in the 2nd ed thread a while back, if you do a search...

I'll not say in case I'm mistaken!

I think, as mentioned, they are not instead of the beams but to make up for the reduced power of the beams.......

I thought it was a bit of both, some ships will loose beams altogether whilst others will have a reduced payload of Battle Lasers.

If you are thinking in terms of attack dice, remember that this is very similar to the Dilgar loadouts, but if you have interceptors, or higher hull, or side-mounted guns, you will get notably fewer dice. With CAF now being a CQ check, Twin-Linked is now or a par (if CQ check is 8) or slightly better than AP (if CQ check is 9), so that should factor into the number of dice as well.

If you get longer ranges than Bolters, you can expect to lose more dice as well (Dilgar pay a steep premium for Range 15 weapons, Range 10 is much cheaper.) If the Ion Cannons are 18" or so, you should expect fewer dice as well.

I'm expecting "Heaps and Heaps" is still reserved for the Dilgar's forward-mounted weapon systems and the Abbai weapon banks.

I think they should be low range, high AD with P, AP (maybe DD)... but that's just me.

Yeah, they sound niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice like that  ...

I'm probably WAY off  ...

From the sounds of it they are going to make centauri players rethink there battle plans a bit. From long range beaming, to closer range slugging it out. EA will be a bit more problematic with all those interceptors. (especially with my skill at rolling sixes at the wrong time)

Why would you think that? Where's the evidence for ion cannons being short-ranged?

Maybe because in the TV show most of the times we see the Centari fighting they like tend to be up close and personal with their opponents.

Personally I like my stand back Centari.
