Insanity Rules

Hi,

I've noticed in the Elric game for MRQII references to losing sanity points (like the first time you witness Stormbringer howling with glee and limed in black radiance as sucks the souls out of its victims) but can't find anywhere in the core rulebook or EoM core book how they are calculated and the rules for using them. Any ideas?

I would imagine there would be rules somewhere in the Elric rules, but I did notice them in S&P #61. I haven't really looked at them yet, though.

**ETA**

I dont know if the rules in the Signs & Portents I posted are compatible, but they are sanity rules for RQII

Thanks for that. The article in S&P61 I think is a more generic version. I'll have a proper read through the EoM book and see if it isn't in there somewhere.

Insanity rules are in the Necromancy book. It is like the Potency of the venoms. Insanity points are gained for experiencing disturbing, shocking events. If your insanity points exceeds your INT characteristic, you acquire a permanent insanity. If your insanity points exceeds half INT, you acquire a temporal insanity (suicidal tendencies, paranoia, panic attacks, unable to speek, phobias or manias...).

Thanks very much Gran_orco. Appreciate the help.
I'd be careful, though, if Elric refers to "losing Sanity Points", rather than gaining Insanity Points, it might be using an entirely different scale. Call of Cthulhu had sanity based on POWx5 which is a very different thing to having a scale that is based on INT with no multiplier. Four or five times different.

Thanks Phil.

Under the Strombringer entry in EoM (MRQII) it states: "witnessing this for the first time costs 1D8 insanity points." After reading the fear and insanity rules in the Necromantic Arts book, I believe this is the system to use. A caveat at the front of EoM suggests that Monster Coliseum and Necromantic Arts would be advantageous but not necessary. I assume this is why, among other, more obvious reasons.

It would be nice though to have a reference in the text; (see Necromantic Arts pg XX for details) or whatever, when a rule or system that is not explained in the current book is referred to, it would make life much easier for everyone.

It is the same.

The Insanity rules originally appeared in 'The Elric Companion' and were reproduced for 'Necromantic Arts'. A more overt reference should have been given, but they are the same rules.
