Mongoose
Hey guys, i just recently got a copy of the revised edition box set, i really liked to look of the game when i saw it at gealcon & being a major b5 freak i wanted toget my hands on it.

anyway i have a few questions after our first few games
1) if ou are reduced to 0 speed from a crit, do you move at all in your next movement phase (due to inertia)?
2) are all the up to date rules in this edition or are the other books (armageddon, sfos, e-m war, dilgar & drakh) needed for the most up to date rules?
3)are there any user made counters out there to represent the other factions? (like the dilgar & more of the ISA)
4)on twin linked weapons when you are CAF'ing are misses rerolled twice?
5) where are boarding parties & squadrons explained?
6) where is the best/cheapes place to get the minis & the rest of the rulebook?

thats all i can think of for now

) if ou are reduced to 0 speed from a crit, do you move at all in your next movement phase (due to inertia)?
NOPE, YOU STOP DEAD
2) are all the up to date rules in this edition or are the other books (armageddon, sfos, e-m war, dilgar & drakh) needed for the most up to date rules?
YOU NEED SFOS, ARMEGEDDON, DRAKH AND DILGAR BOOKS TO BE COMPLETELY UP TO DATE, HOWEVER THE GAME IS FULLY PLAYEABLE WITHOUT THEM
3)are there any user made counters out there to represent the other factions? (like the dilgar & more of the ISA)
NOT YET. RICH BAX DID SOME DILGAR AND DRAKH ONES, BUT HIS SITE SEEMS TO BE DEAD :-(
4)on twin linked weapons when you are CAF'ing are misses rerolled twice? NOPE, A CAF ON A TWIN LINK HAS NO BENEFIT
5) where are boarding parties & squadrons explained? UM, SFOS I THINK
6) where is the best/cheapes place to get the minis & the rest of the rulebook? VARIES. DANCING DRYAD ARE USUALLY DECENT FOR MINI'S (ASSUMING YOU ARE IN THE UK)

To answer at least a few of your questions...

2) You can easily play with the ones in the Revised box, but to be fully up to date both SFoS and Armageddon are needed. And if you want to play Dilgar or Drakh you will need the appropriate fleet book.
3) Yes rbax produced some for the Drakh and I think the Dilgar. Theres probably a link to them in Player resources sticky.
http://www.richbax.com/dilgar-counters.pdf
to be exact for the Dilgar at least.
4) No, dice can only be rerolled once. So CAFing a twin-linked weapon is fairly pointless...

Welcome to the game!

Are you from Dublin?

In answer to your questions

1) No you remain stationary, there is no inertia

2) Armageddon contains some rules changes, SFOS is optional but highly recommended, the others if you are interested in those races or periods

3) Yes try the stickied player resources or try PMing Rich Bax

4) No you only re-roll once ever

5) They are definitely in SFOS

6) In Dublin I recommend The Third Place in Crow St

thats all i can think of for now

1, A speed 0 crit means you don't move at all.

2, Armageddon is the latest "update" to the rules, but you can play fine without it. You're just not current for tournaments. Sky Full of Stars adds extra rules that aren't in the Revised box. See below.

3, A quick search of this forum ought to turn up some Drakh and Dilgar counters.

4, Re-rolls can't be re-rolled. Twin-Linked weapons get no benefit from CAF orders.

5, Boarding and squadrons are explained in Sky Full of Stars.

6, ID Gaming in Merseyside, UK, is my choice for ACtA purchases but if you're elsewhere in the world a local merchant would be better.

1) No you don't move at all, ACTA doesnt really do inertia properly it just models it in a very abstract way in the turning rules and needing special orders to stop normally. Speed 0 means exactly that.

2) The rules are compatible with the other books but to be fully up to date you WILL need SFoS, Armageddon, and the Drakh and Dilgar Books (the last two only if you want to play those two races obviously). Also the Earth Minbari War book info is not in any of the others but isnt really needed, just cool :D

3) Yes there are some fantastic counters for both Drakh and Dilgar made by Rich Bax, I think theres a link to them in the new player resources sticky post. If not I'm sure somone will link them soon :)

4) No you never re-roll a re-roll for any reason. Similarly you dont reroll further dice from beam weapons when CAFed, only the initial attack dice.

5) Squadrons are explained in the main rule book (cant remember the page though, its under advanced rules I believe). Boarding rules are added in Sky Full of Stars.

6) I like www.dancingdryad.com personally, have always found them to be quick delivery, great prices and great service :)

You can find links to all of rbax counters and his very well made Dilgar War suppliment on this site

http://www.pcsii.com/josborn/b5/

Some of the other stuff on the site isn't up to date with Armageddon though...

And the Dilgar counters link appears to have an extra f in pdf on its URL but that's easily fixed...

wow that was a quick reply :)

yeah im from dublin (i was playing in the hordes tournament while the acta demo was on so i was only overhearing half of the rules :) )

thanks for the links to the counters (i found the drakh ones)

in terms are they mostly balanced (apart form the obvious ancients) & which would be a good race to start off with (i love the narn & drazi form a fluff point of view)

Excellent I'm in Dublin too so if you ever fancy meeting up for a game!

Yes the fleets are mostly balanced, If you like the Narn and Drazi start with one of them. The Narn might be a little more straightforward to use and make an ideal foe for my Centauri!

The Drazi are great one of my favourites, you need to play them in a very aggressive style though.

Oh don't ask the balance question!!!

Personally though I think things are reasonable good.
Some fleets require more skill than others to win with, but I like that in a game...
Some fleets suffer at lower playing levels (Minbari, Ancients...)
Some specific ships can also cause problems (especially if fielded in large numbers...)
I don't there are any fleet lists which are "oh i'm playing this fleet so I win automatically..." (unless you do go overboard on some of the disputed ships)
Not much help I suppose but I tend towards playing within the background, so don't often meet the "i have built the Fleet of Doom, instant winner of tournaments" fleets (i don't attend tournmants though, not a competative player really)

Yeah you tend to get quick replies. I suspect alot of us on here should probably spend more time doing our jobs and less time slacking and posting on the forum but what the hell ;)

As for Narn or Drazi, theyre both great fleets though I would warn that Narn's require a certain style of play to be really effective generally (they tend to work better using packs of smaller ships). Drazi work in a fairly similar manner to this but they dont really have any other types of ship to choose from anyway so its a moot point. Most fleets in the game I think are currently pretty well balanced though some are harder to play well than others when you DO know how to use them you can generally beat any other fleet in a fair fight.

It's worth noting that some fleets do better at certainl priorty levels than others too (Early EA, Drazi, Narns tend to do well at lower pl games, Minbari, Vorlons and Shadows tend to work better at higher end games and races like crusdae EA, Dilgar and Centauri tend to work well at mid to high levels, etc etc)

And if you play against EP you might get to help him playtest all shiny new stuff before it comes out...

I think we all should spend more time working instead of posting on here!

The Narn are a pretty good fleet to start with, consider concentrating on smallr ships in packs, they perform very well. The Bin TAK is arguably one of the best warships out their, but the Raid and Battle ships aren'd as great as some other fleets.
The Drazi are good as their models are prtety interchangeable :-) and they excel at pack tactics.
other fleets have their strenghths and weaknesses. The Centauri have a few redundant ships but are a very powerful fleet across pretty much every level.

Or you could both come into the games guild (The connolly suite in the Royal Dublin Hotel on wedensday nights)- we're planning a campaign for next year!

In fact, the guild is free this coming wednesday with free food as well! We have a small game of ActA planned but there's always room for something bigger!

Yes I need to get myself in gear to go there,
